The Anne Report
Dear ,
Holiday season is upon us. We leave on the 15th to see our grandchildren, and, of course, their parents too. My daughter and son-in-law are like dogs; when people have a child, the beloved dog takes a backseat. So it came to pass that my children took the backseat. It’s all about the grands now.
I’m not sure where my holiday excitement and spirit are hiding. There are no trees, no garlands, no wreaths, no angel hand towels. My house isn’t even clean today, but it will be. I invited friends over and that’s a guaranteed way to get me to clean. And okay, maybe I’ll put out an angel towel. That was the advantage of having our house on the market. I couldn’t exercise my sloppiness and I loved how neat the house stayed. On the plus side, I have been writing every morning, and the weather is gorgeous, even magical.
Every year I give up all expectations for the holidays. Some years I swing with the cultural narrative and other years I don’t. I don’t expect to be wowed. I don’t put up decorations just because it’s the thing to do. I do it when and if it is a part of my passion. Full disclosure: I never skip holiday eating or holiday music. That is effortless. We are going to a holiday show tonight: again effortless. I’m not sure whether this is because I’m older or because I’ve been teaching the EZosophy philosophy so long that I’ve left holiday suffering behind. Not for sure, but I expect that if you relax and do what brings you joy, that your holiday season will be EZier too. And that’s it for the Anne Report.

The Shoe Teachings
I had a pair of well-worn, tenderly cared for, silver gray cloth shoes. I wore them past their prime and into their senior days. Finally, I sent them to the shoe graveyard. I wanted another pair but never found them. My friend and I went shopping on Black Friday. I know, please don’t judge me; we usually go to this outlet store when I’m in Nacogdoches and Friday was the only day we could go. I picked up some Christmas cards and wrapping paper and, as I walked toward the checkout, I passed a huge bin of tangled shoes. Something caught in my peripheral vision. Was it; no it couldn’t be: silver gray cloth shoes. Yes, and they were my size! After fighting with ten other pair of shoes that were hanging on, I freed them, tried them on, and put them in my basket. I didn’t know the price, but when the cashier rang them up, they were one dollar – 90% off the already severely discounted price! I could almost hear the bargain-hunting heavenly choir singing in the background.
Today, as I arranged the shoes in my closet, I noticed how my choice of shoes depicts my life’s changes. There used to be a co-mingling of heels, fancy shoes, and boots. To me, cloth shoes were play shoes. I didn’t take them seriously, but now almost all my shoes are cloth and casual. I moved from the stance of wanting to look good, to wanting to feel comfortable. When I was young, I stuffed my feet into shoes that made them look small. I wanted to be demure, fashionable, and have tiny feet. Nowadays my shoes have that boat look that I relentlessly tried to avoid in my youth.
What do my shoes say about me? Do they reflect my character? Here’s how I treat my shoes:
-
I’m easy on my shoes. I avoid stepping in mud, wet grass, and oil.
-
I keep my shoes clean. I dust them all or scrub off scuffs and dirty spots.
-
I wipe them on a foot mat when I enter the door and usually don’t wear them around the house.
-
I keep them together in a shoe rack. They are organized.
-
I enjoy them. I treat them like friends. I never throw them, and if they are on the floor, I don’t kick them out of the way.
-
When they die, or I no longer wear them, I give them away or put them in the recycling.
The material world may be illusory and we may live in a materialist culture, but we still can bring the sacred into this world of form. How we treat and interact with things, and even what things we have, reflect our values. We don’t need to be excruciatingly neat to have a good relationship with our things, but we need a sense of respect for life itself. When we respect life, we respect ourselves, and that respect covers all parts of our lives. Respect is a self-filling vessel, and it’s freely shared. It is no one's property; it's in the commons.
If you are smitten with the shoe metaphor and want to go deeper, try the 30-day shoe experiment.
-
Be aware of your shoes. Keep them clean. Put them up and appreciate them.
-
Journal daily about your shoes. Topics: How I treated my shoes today; which are my favorites; what shoes do I need to release, etc.
-
At the end of 30-day experiment, see if this has shown you anything about yourself.
Even the simplest act can turn our lives in a better direction. It may be if you take better care of your shoes, if you treat them consciously, like a friend, you’ll find that the extra-care is really the care you are pouring on yourself. Be bold, be brave, care for your shoes, and I suspect that your life will get EZier and EZier.
P. S.: May we take no more than we need. May we treat our possessions with respect, may we remember how fortunate we are to have what we have, and may we share our bounty.

Jump for Joy
I produce a Dr. Money video most days. I post it on YouTube and Facebook. I’ve been doing this for more than a year. Okay, not all of them are posted on YouTube, but more than 500 are posted on Facebook. They are short and meant to remind people to stop obsessing about lack and to return to their power, especially their prosperity power. I wonder if I can come up with one more idea, but, miraculously, something always appears. All the ideas are not equal, and some are silly beyond belief. That’s when I coined the phrase, “Silliness is Sacred.” I am not putting out an Oscar award winning piece of art. No, just a tiny tip to move us away from the fear of lack and toward the cozy feeling of enoughness.
Today I heard a brilliant lecture about the “mind.” It was intellectual and involved a lot of thinking. As I sat enthralled by the ideas and concepts, a thought crept through my mind: “Jump for Joy.” I led a meditation on joy before the lecture and it must have spilled through. I didn’t jump up, but I made a note to myself to jump for joy. When I arrived home, I not only jumped for joy, I did a Dr. Money video on jumping for joy as a way to get out of the prosperity doldrums.
Did you know that people across all cultures jump for joy? Think children in our culture. I’ve suggested singing, meditation, affirmations, visualization, and breathing consciously, but I have never told anyone to jump. Today, I suggested to my Dr. Money friends, via video, that every time their minds went to a habituated place of lack, that they jump for joy. I believe that movement is divine, and that if we want to change our lives, we not only need to speak the word, feel as if it is so, and picture it as happening, we also need to move. Movement is God. Did you know that the name for God in the Old Testament, YHVH, is a verb? It’s something that moves; not a person but a happening. I’ve been jumping, more like hopping, around this afternoon and it is invigorating. My inner voice was spot on. Geez, how I depend on that inner knowing!
Jumping for joy is like duct tape: It works on everything. So when you find yourself in a downward spiral, certainly use any or all your tools, but when you finish, may I suggest that you jump for joy.

Abundance Affirmations
This group is a place to post uplifting affirmations and thoughts about prosperity and abundant living. Let’s create a right relationship with money so that we feel comfortable about money. Let’s use money as it’s meant to be used, and not as a way to accumulate power or to fill a void. We don’t need money to buy more stuff. We need it to create a world that works for everyone. We want to cast off old beliefs of lack and reclaim our natural state of abundance. Anne, AKA Dr. Money, posts a nightly goodnight for the prosperity team, and everyone who watches them becomes a part of the prosperity team.
You can also join the Prosperity Team by watching Anne’s Dr. Money channel.
