  The Anne Report

The Anne Report

Dear ,

Packing almost complete. Lucy continues to hide outside. The jasmine covered back fence shouts its fragrance, as if it knows we are leaving. Texas show us her best, as if to say, “Don’t leave. It’s so pretty here.” I moved to Texas in 1998, but my husband moved here when he was 15. He’s happy to go, but nostalgic none-the less. “As an adult, I’ve never lived anywhere but Texas.” He’s posting Texas songs on Facebook and reminisces about Texas things. He posted London Homesick Blues, best known as Home With the Armadillo, and the song repeatedly two-steps in my head.

We’ve been counting down the days as if we are awaiting a rocket launch. NASA is on the other side of town, but we have our launch sequence perfected, somewhat like our Texas pros. The buyers do a walk through on Friday. Our furniture gets packed Friday and Saturday. The house gets cleaned on Sunday. We sign the closing papers on Monday, spend one night in Nacogdoches, then head for S. C. If I were a song writer, I’d write a leaving song that would go something like this:

Moved to Texas and snagged a man.
Loved him more than I had planned.
Married him one winter’s night.
He loved me too; our love was ripe.

Wrote some books and made some friends.
Thought life in Texas would never end.
But end it will, and tears will fall.
Thanks to everyone; I love you all.

Reflections on the Pandemic

Moving is messy. Our dog thinks Armageddon is upon us. Normally content to lie around the house, Lucy’s moved to the back patio. She walks into empty rooms looking confused, as her eyes look to us for solace. She is out of her comfort zone. Ten years in this house; this is the only home she remembers, and now it is falling apart.

This time of rapid change reminds me of Lucy’s life. People are headed toward a new life, but they have no idea where they will end up or how they will get there. Life’s GPS isn’t working. Change taunts us, and when the outcome is slippery, we become contestants of The Fear Factor. We may not land in a spider-filled cage, but we feel as if we might.

Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art that harmonizes people’s lives with their surrounding environments. The energy of the home and its contents are blended so their energies work together. Years ago, I had a Feng Shui consultation. The consultant came into my home and surveyed each room. She made several suggestions, then counseled, “Change only one thing, then wait a week or two before making more cures.” Cures were what returned the energy to a natural flow. “Making too many changes at once is overwhelming.”

Jumping Jehoshaphat, if changing one piece of furniture requires an adjustment period, think of how all the changes in the past few weeks affect us. Our lives are topsy turvy and there’s no Feng Shui expert to harmonize anything. If you wonder why you are out of sorts, the answer is simple. Too many things moved too fast. All of the sudden we walk around with masks, don’t go to the movies, freeze emotionally when we hear someone cough or sneeze, wipe off the handles of gas pumps, and rejoice because we can get a take-out pizza. The soap opera, Days of Our Lives, is now live and in person. We are the actors.

We need a cure. What can return us to our natural flow? One summer we went to Marathon, in the Big Bend area of west Texas, and attended a barbecue cookoff. Everybody had their special recipe, and after they cooked, basted, smoked, and prayed, their ribs were ready for judging. We are cooks. We each have a special recipe or cure for the changing times. We didn’t expect a staycation, an economic freefall, or to see death courting us, but that’s what we have, and it’s up to us to remain calm, or at least sane. “You have the right to remain silent!” That might be the best advice for this situation.

When I lived in Memphis, I frequented a convent called The House of the Lord. One could stay overnight or for a week or two. Each seeker had a small bedroom with a single bed. It was a house of silence. I loved that place and was happy to go there for renewal or when I needed guidance. During each visit, I met with a nun once a day, who selected a sacred phrase for me to mediate on for 24 hours. I was encouraged to speak to no one, and to forego journaling, reading, or writing. The only words spoken were during the daily brief time with the nun. Any time I had an important decision to make, I would spend the night at The House of the Lord and remain in silence. While I was never struck by spiritual lightning, I always came away calmer. Either the problem or decision I was dealing with lost importance or I had an easy and simple answer to my question. The less I tried to figure out my situation, the more answers I received. I guess prayer is asking and silence and meditation are listening.

We have not encountered this kind of situation before, meaning a pandemic during our lifetimes, on American soil. (Okay, there may still be a few people left who lived through the Spanish flu of 1918.) We want guidance from our government on what to do, such as “Don’t do anything stupid,” and perhaps coordination of supplies and dissemination of information, but there is no one to steady our nerves, and no laps to sit upon. Our illusory security blanket is gone. In years to come, what story will you tell about the COVID-19 virus? What will you remember? What will you take away from this that will make you stronger? Will it be an opportunity or an enemy? Maybe the relevant question is, “Will I rise, or will I fall?” This is the Socratic method: ask questions and let the answers flow from your heart. We are not facing an EZ situation, but when we face it head on, when we give it our Full Monte, then even the worst situation becomes EZier and EZier.

This group is a place to post uplifting affirmations and thoughts about prosperity and abundant living. Let’s create a right relationship with money so that we feel comfortable about money. Let’s use money as it’s meant to be used, and not as a way to accumulate power or to fill a void. We don’t need money to buy more stuff. We need it to create a world that works for everyone. We want to cast off old beliefs of lack and reclaim our natural state of abundance. Anne, AKA Dr. Money, posts a nightly goodnight video for the prosperity team, and everyone who watches those videos becomes a part of the prosperity team.

You too can join the Prosperity Team by watching Anne’s Dr. Money channel.
