  The Anne Report

The Anne Report

Dear ,

Today is a great day because I feel great. Some say it takes anywhere from weeks to months for anesthesia to wear off after a surgery. I did not know that I was still under the influence of anesthesia until I got this wonderful burst of energy. In a flash, I felt like myself. The incisions in my belly look good and I feel like doing things again. Until today, I drug myself from task to task, but today I am bouncing from task to task.

I think I will get some miracle grow. Do you think I can grow miracles with it? Maybe not, but it seems like miracles abound. Though the world is in turmoil, it is important to feed ourselves with miracles, good thoughts, and gratitude. Our attitude and our thoughts are our fuel, and if we do not have good fuel, our lives will not run smoothly. I am sure you know this, but in today’s world, it is too easy to get mired in politics, what ifs, and othering. I remind you so I can remind myself. We may have a pandemic of COVID-19, but we also have a pandemic of consciousness. As a society, we are paranoid, overwhelmed, and afraid, and these energies are contagious. Emotions, especially strong ones, are transmittable, and we must stay attuned to something greater than the collective drama. It is fetching to dive into the morass, but if we want to remain loyal to the call of our spirit, we must move away from the greed, fear, and drama and into the Source of our being. This is not about being in denial; it is about being at choice. And that’s it for the Anne Report.

Waking Up

There was a time in my life when I had things figured out. Okay, maybe there were numerous times! The first blow to my belief system occurred when I was 17. The youth director at my church challenged my view of God. “If you believe that God is a man with a white beard up in heaven, then you are mistaken. Look again. Explore. Find out.” I felt like I had been sucker punched. That was my God. I thought of God as a parent, and if I did something good, I would be rewarded, and if I did something bad, I would be punished. Later I realized that my view of God and Santa Clause were the same.

Then there were years of flailing. I read practically nonstop to bring clarity to my life, yet the deeper I looked, the more confused I became. Finally, when I was in my twenties, I gave up. I had meditated, read, analyzed, pleaded, to no end. I saw two choices. I could give up or give in. I decided to give in. I would give in to that which was greater than I, even if I had no idea what that was. One desperate night, I gave it all up, and something happened. I could see in a way I had never seen before. It was as if a veil lifted and I realized that the amazing life I was finally seeing had always been present. Why hadn’t I noticed? This experience turned pain into pleasure. While this glimpse of heaven on earth did not cure the ills of my life, it did give me a life raft. I no longer felt like I was constantly drowning.

Then, as if orchestrated by a mad scientist, my mind started putting the pieces together, to create a more sophisticated dogma. It was not the Santa Clause belief system, but it was one that had a lot of rewards and punishments. “You reap what you sow.” “Positive thoughts create positive results. Negative thoughts create negative results.” My mind thought it could create a good life and existence through thought alone. “Think the right thing and everything will fall into place.” That worked part time and every time I was ready to give up my belief system, I would have a little breakthrough that kept me anchored to my beliefs. Soon I built a fortress with positive thinking and the Law of Attraction. I thought this wall would keep me safe and protected, but it just left me in denial and emotionally stunted. There was nothing wrong with positive thinking and the Law of Attraction, I just used them in the wrong way. I had to put them where they belonged: they became my servants, not my guides.

I met and studied briefly with a Native American elder. She was wise, funny, and courageous. Once I was in a gathering in Oklahoma where she was one of the keynote speakers. I told her that I had to leave because I had to teach in the morning. It was a seven-hour drive and I did not want to drive for seven hours at night. She told me to stay and listen to her. “It will be okay. Trust me.” After her presentation, I took off for Memphis. Not only did I not fall asleep, I entered a time warp. I emerged from my car refreshed. It felt as if only 7 minutes had gone by, but it was seven hours later. I was astounded. I had time to catch a few hours’ sleep before my Sunday morning talk. Those wee hours of the morning, in an almost trance state, I traveled through the stars. Of course, I mean my mind, my consciousness, traveled or expanded. This journey brought to life all that I had learned about mind and creation. Thoughts were things, and when we get to the essence of thought, miracles occur. When I returned, I felt as if one part of me dwelled in an expanded Universe and the other part was in my body. I had tapped into a supreme power, and it was mine to use. But I had been around my ego long enough to know that if I started using this kind of power, I would probably lose myself in extreme materialism, whether it be spiritual materialism or the materialism of things. In a moment of wisdom and sanity, I shelved this experience and its power. I did all I could to hold onto the expansiveness that brought with it a soft and nonintrusive peace.

If I had read the above stories when I was young, I would have thought they were written by an old or advanced soul, but since I am the one who wrote it, I know better. Even though I had glimpses of the divine, I was still only standing on the edge of a cliff. I could see a long way; I could peer into the unlimited, but I had my limits. Given I knew of no other plan, I shuffled around at the edge of the cliff for about a year.

In 1997 I attended a satsang, which is a spiritual discourse. The teacher claimed not to be a guru, but to me, she was one. This event was the birthplace of another one of those moments that dissolved all I thought I knew. All my strategies got me to that point, but my techniques were now irrelevant. In the presence of this spiritual being, who spoke to a wide-eyed and open-hearted audience, I jumped off the cliff and into the abyss. That was more than twenty years ago, and I am still integrating the undoing of my, up to that point, spiritual knowing.

When people tell me they have a sure fire method for doing anything, I smile inside. I know they are in a phase that will end. When we are ready for truth, our belief systems fall, our I’ve got it all together manner falls, our bravado falls, our ego falls, but they will fall over the cliff of awareness. Although it might seem confusing not to use the familiar parts of the mind as our spiritual director, everything eventually clears up.

I started my journey with the need for so many how-tos, but as I have journeyed, the how-tos continue to fade. Yes, we can use how-tos for practical things, like learning how to read, how to bake a cake, and how to scuba dive, but the how-tos for waking up, do not exist. There are plenty of how-not-tos, but ultimately it is through the desire to know ourselves and grace, that the journey moves us from the cliff to the skies. We are destined to soar in the true nature of our being, but the journey is mysterious. It is not a two-step, and even the purest aspects of religion only provide signposts. I am happy I have spent much of my almost 72 years on this journey, and I have learned that just when I think I have it made, the world shakes. So, if you are shaking in your boots, you might not be falling down; you might be falling up. I hope we can get over our need for predictability and knowing everything, because when we do, life becomes EZier and EZier.

Join Anne’s Facebook Group

This group is a place to post uplifting affirmations and thoughts about prosperity and abundant living. Let’s create a right relationship with money so that we feel comfortable about money. Let’s use money as it’s meant to be used, and not as a way to accumulate power or to fill a void. We don’t need money to buy more stuff. We need it to create a world that works for everyone. We want to cast off old beliefs of lack and reclaim our natural state of abundance. Anne, AKA Dr. Money, posts a nightly goodnight video for the prosperity team, and everyone who watches those videos becomes a part of the prosperity team.
