  The Anne Report

The Anne Report

Dear ,

One of the things people like to talk about is the weather. We always hear about oppressive heat, freezing cold, floods, and hurricanes. This time of year, in the south, there is one cry, “The weather is wonderful. The weather is lovely. Great day to take a walk. Great day to ride our bikes.” It is the most beautiful time of the year. I’m sitting in my bedroom, windows open, and a breeze saunters through. It is as if the fairies sprinkle the air with magic dust and everything feels enchanted. If ever anyone in the south should talk about the weather, this is the time of the year to do it.

I will be 72 on Friday, and now that I have resumed my yoga, I feel less my age. I feel 65! I was so banged up in the auto accident, and by the time I got over that, I had surgery, so I did not exercise. Now I am bending, stretching, and bicycling. Everything works again. What perfect timing: my body was ready to rock when we moved in. If we had bought a home, rather than building one, we would have been moving right after the accident, and then I would have faced surgery. The move would have been much more difficult with me being incapacitated. What great fortune to know that even bad fortune is guided and guarded. The accident revealed the tumor and, because we built, rather than buying an existing house, created perfect or divine timing. One of my favorite affirmations sums it up: “I am lucky!”

Our washer and dryer came yesterday, my friend flies in tonight, and Jim leaves in the morning, to retrieve our furniture from Texas. Tomorrow my friend and I work on the RV to get it ready to sell. The new life in South Carolina is going well and I appreciate all your love, support, and prayers. And that’s it for the Anne Report.

Separating the Wheat from the Chaff

Thoughts of glory and disaster float through my mind. I watch and wonder where they came from and what they want with me. Some of the thoughts and fantasies are ridiculous. I remember dating, and on the first date, my mind would take me years into the future. Fortunately, thoughts are not visible to others, because if they were, friendship as we know it, might cease to exist. In defense, not justification, the thoughts we have about others are no less insipid or hurtful than those we have about ourselves. The mind is a trickster. It manufactures false scenarios as if they were gospel. Why is it that we not only believe our thoughts and beliefs, we defend them with vigor?

Sometimes there is a break in the word parade, and we feel a wordless wonder, a pure silence that holds us, like an adoring mother. This stillness moves us past and below our questioning mind, beyond any me-ness, and delivers us into peace. But the words are always there, right at the tip of consciousness, waiting for expression, yearning to carry us on a mind trip, compliments of our pasts. Then again, words come girded with possibilities. Words give rise to the wheat and chaff, so we are left to pick and choose.

As I have grown, inconsequential words rumble, even race, through my mind, but I can let them pass by without roping them in to form an illusory reality. There was a time when I wanted so much from my words. I guarded them, controlled them, and criticized them when they did not suit me, but now I just let them play, and watch as they plant seeds. Positive thinking is wonderful, but sometimes my mind uses it against me. In these cases, discernment becomes a steppingstone to my sanity. Is a positive thought relevant to my situation or do I need to grieve or deal with shadow material?

My mental activity no longer defines me, but I am grateful for it because it offers choices. Sometimes I write the thoughts down or speak them to others. I must admit, thoughts can be handy, so we struck an alliance and there is now a peaceful coexistence between me and my words.

I speak of the deeper things of life, the things that seem obscure in a fast-paced, fast-moving world. While the deeper pools of consciousness may not seem important, they hold the most essential aspects of life. We think we are too busy to take time to listen deeply, not knowing that we construct busy lives to avoid facing our true selves. Busy-ness is the egoic mind’s plan for its own survival, and busy-ness is an addiction. Have you ever been on vacation and by the time you slowed down a bit, it was time to go home; therefore, there was just a suggestion of relaxation?

I visited Memphis a few years after I had moved. I ran into an acquaintance who asked how I was doing. I shared all my activities and he remarked, “You are the same you were when you were here – busy. You have not changed a bit.” It was a bit of shock to hear that, but it was accurate. I, along with most of the Western civilization, am addicted to being busy and productive.

One of our other fixations is the need to constantly try to fix ourselves or the world. While some things might require change, much of our need to improve things is a part of the addiction to busy-ness. The egoic mind keeps a running list of all the things we must do to improve ourselves. I could fix everything, including myself and the entire human race; I could resolve the climate crisis, and the egoic mind would say, “Okay. You fixed everything on earth, but earth is so small. The Universe is vast. Get to work.”

One of the first lines of defense in healing the human dilemma is self-acceptance, but even self-acceptance can go awry. “Accepting oneself as you are can function as an ego trap of either self-indulgence or resignation.” (Eli Jaxon-Bear) We do not want self-acceptance to be an excuse to continue to act in ways that are harmful to ourselves and others, and we do not want it to be a sign of giving up. While self-acceptance is wonderful and necessary, it is important to be aware of when it is co-opted by the ego.

The egoic mind is stealthy. It uses our best against us. It is important to notice the ego traps, because in noticing them, we are relieved from the drive to fix ourselves or live under the influence of shame and blame. There is an awareness that moves in every transaction, every thought, that shifts us into a space that is already okay. That is why mindfulness is so important. Whether it is the experience of the pressure on our feet as we walk, the awareness of the intake of our breath, or noticing the thoughts that cross our minds, the awareness of what is present pulls us toward that inner knowing. We are always at the cross-roads of consciousness. We either numb out and keep our minds and or our bodies busy, or we stop the mind in its tracks, knowing the mental gymnastics offer nothing to our existence. Awareness is the golden key of consciousness. When we turn down the speed of the mind and its domination, and reach into the place where doing is necessary, there is fulfillment that always makes life EZier and EZier.

Join Anne’s Facebook Group

This group is a place to post uplifting affirmations and thoughts about prosperity and abundant living. Let’s create a right relationship with money so that we feel comfortable about money. Let’s use money as it’s meant to be used, and not as a way to accumulate power or to fill a void. We don’t need money to buy more stuff. We need it to create a world that works for everyone. We want to cast off old beliefs of lack and reclaim our natural state of abundance. Anne, AKA Dr. Money, posts a nightly goodnight video for the prosperity team, and everyone who watches those videos becomes a part of the prosperity team.
