  The Anne Report

The Anne Report

Dear ,

I just tried to record a video. Mosquitoes lunched on my legs, I could not get the sound to work on my iPad, and there was no quiet space in the back yard to record. I changed locations, set up, started recording. I was dripping wet and overheated. It was the perfect storm for a Hard Attack. I quietly turned off the camera, gathered my things, and returned to our air-conditioned RV. I chose not to suffer. The old me would have been dramatic about the nonrecording event, but I knew better. Suffering over being hot and being unable able to record would have been luxury suffering. There was nothing wrong. I was hot and I did not accomplish my task. That was nothing to suffer about.

I have been watching a YouTube channel called Invisible People. Mark Horvath was successful in television, but he lost it all and ended up addicted, and on the streets When he turned his life around, he did not forget the homeless. He has interviewed homeless people since 2008. The interviews evoke compassion, but they also humble me. They remind me how good my life is. Homeless people would not be recording a video, nor would they have a place of refuge to return to. These videos allow me to gain perspective.

When I found that I was going to need surgery, I did grumble a bit, but I decided to focus on the good parts up my upcoming medical journey. We caught it early, I had plenty of support, and the timing was perfect. I found that as I took each moment, as it came, no moment was too hard to bear. As I sat on the gurney, before I went into surgery, I looked into my future. I pictured myself walking easily and feeling fine. The days I pictured came quickly. These are those days, and I am grateful. And that’s it for the Anne report. P.S.: Remember the eight word miracle mantra, “Everything can be EZ or at least EZier.”

Who Has a Perfect Life?

I have a friend who promoted a path called the “Path of Not Knowing.” While this might sound like a path for the weak, it is a path of power. And wonderful blessings await those who are open to the unknown and to not having everything figured out. You might think I am obsessed with this topic, since I write about emptying the mind frequently and not knowing, and you might be right. With the end of life as we have known it, getting comfortable with not knowing is a blessing. I did not know I would miss my life, until I lost it! Okay, I am mixing the realities of the inner and outer worlds. COVID shook up our outer world, and we seem stuck in the outer, but it is the inner world that runs the show of our lives.

The outer world is flashy; it is the one we make up. Our perception creates projection. The process starts with our inner world. This inner world has a builder and an architect. Together, they construct our lives for safety, not for adventure, and because the unknown seems too risky, they fastidiously control our lives. We can be so closed minded that even if the miracle appears, we miss it. That’s why the mystics continue to shout, “Meditation, contemplation, and self-inquiry are the tools that soften the need for stringent control.” These actions force our building committee out of a job.

When I was young, I attended a group breathing session. I went into deep states of happiness, contentment, and courage. I realized that all my planning, controlling, worrying, and trying to stay safe, were the barriers that kept me from this peaceful state. My control was like trying to stay safe from fire by hoarding matches.

A spiritual master taught his students two things: We must keep our energy moving and our minds still. Conscious breathing, physical exercises, and swimming in natural bodies of water, are the tools for energy clearing. He heralded meditation, mantra, mindfulness, and breathwork as the tools that clear the mind. He not only shared these guidelines, he followed them. Though his life was miracle studded, his life was rocky at points. Financial problems and poor health plagued him, but he was indeed a spiritual wonder.

We are taught that if we get our world in order, if we are adored, have plenty of money, and can travel to the ends of the earth, we will be happy. Most people go for these external goals, yet we discover that acquiring things is not the solution we were promised. It is working on the inner world that brings about peace and satisfaction. Jesus said, in the famous Sermon of the Mount, to seek the Kingdom of God and all else will be added unto us. This command sends us away from the outer and toward the inner. The Hebrew word for God, YHVH, is not a noun; it is a verb, and it speaks of a dynamic flow. It is the energy that creates and pervades all of creation. The scripture means that when we enter this dynamism, this movement, this flow, our lives will work out. It does not mean food will fall on our heads; it means that life will show us a way to go that will not only fill our hearts, but will also bring what we need into our lives when we need it. This bit of self-help advice, offered by Jesus, does not mean that we must seek the approval of a deity. YHVH is that which moves all creation, creates all, and underlies all. It is a living, moving force. “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God” means many things, including the idea that when we pursue love, act in love, rise in love, and rest in love, our lives become what they were always meant to be.

The Dalai Lama has lived an exemplary life. He was acknowledged at the age of two as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama. He was born in 1935. In 1950, at 16, he assumed full political power as Head of State and Government of Tibet. In 1959 he was forced into exile. The Dali Lama got it right and his life is amazing. He is the best known and most respected spiritual teacher and leader of our time, but he has faced unimaginable trials in his life. Life is not full of guarantees. We cannot set ourselves up to a stringent pattern of perfectionism that no one has ever lived up to. His Holiness did his disciplines: he studied scriptures, he meditated, he forgave, he never bought into materialism, yet his life was not picture perfect.

There is great talk today about privilege. I realize that I have the privilege of being able to meditate and to develop my spiritual life. I just watched a YouTube video that featured a homeless woman who had two master’s degrees. At this moment one might think her privileges have been suspended. She does not have the privileges I have. I have the privilege of being able to write. If I were being evicted today, I would not have this luxury. If I were starving, most everything I write about would be superfluous, but by some grace or roll of the dice, I was born into a place of privilege. I do not want what I write about to become a code of behavior or to suggest that if people are not doing their spiritual work, it is their fault that their lives do not work. I have already established that I have done everything to ensure a healthy and happy life, but my life has taken plenty of nose dives. We have guidelines, given to us by masters, friends, rabbis, and mystics. If we follow them, we will most likely create wonderful lives, but there will be some detours along the way. The spiritual master was right: we need to avoid stagnation and keep our lives and bodies moving. We must tame the monkey mind and invoke the sweet stillness of spirit. Though these actions may not take us in the direction we expect or prefer, when we follow perennial wisdom, we set up the circumstances in our lives for an abundant flow.

As Theodore Roosevelt advised, Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” And to that we can add, expect the best and accept what is, because when we do, life is EZier and EZier. Life is not perfect and, thank goodness, it does not have to be. Do not believe me; just ask the Dalai Lama.

Join Anne’s Facebook Group

This group is a place to post uplifting affirmations and thoughts about prosperity and abundant living. Let’s create a right relationship with money so that we feel comfortable about money. Let’s use money as it’s meant to be used, and not as a way to accumulate power or to fill a void. We don’t need money to buy more stuff. We need it to create a world that works for everyone. We want to cast off old beliefs of lack and reclaim our natural state of abundance. Anne, AKA Dr. Money, posts a nightly goodnight video for the prosperity team, and everyone who watches those videos becomes a part of the prosperity team.
