  The Anne Report

The Anne Report

Dear ,

The boys were here for the weekend. There was much excitement on Saturday night, as Reynolds ran to me with blood streaming from his mouth. “Grand Ma Ma, I lost a tooth.” He was breathless with enthusiasm and pride. He described how he kept checking it and checking it. He turned it a bit with each check because it was very loose. His mom thought to send his tooth pillow, and we hung it, along with his tooth, on the bedroom door. We were all happy to see that the tooth fairy found Reynolds, even though he was not at his home. We video-called mom and dad in the morning with the entire story. It was an exciting day for everyone.

Since Reynolds likes peacocks, I made him a peacock out of construction paper. Thomas wanted one as well, but we were out of green construction paper. He said he wanted a red one, and though I mentioned that peacocks are blue and green, he assured me that since these were not actual peacocks, we could make them any color we wanted. The peacock tail was folded like fan, and it can be compacted or extended to look like a fan. Thomas had the idea that we could make peacock fans and sell them in the store and make some money. Since I am the worker bee on this project, I’m not planning to mention this again!

We sold our truck this weekend. This officially marks the end of our RV camping. We had some good times in our camper, but learned, as others had warned us, that camping in an RV, or at least a bumper pull, is a lot of work! I did love our camper and am incredibly happy we lived out that dream. We are now down to one vehicle. As a sort of outdoor sport replacement, we did buy a blow-up kayak. We take it to our local lake, and I think the alligators love seeing us float by. We give them a wide berth. Since we are in the low country, gators are a mainstay here. And that’s it for the Anne Report.

  Main Article

Then There Were Two or Maybe More!

Recently I read a review of the book, Your Symphony of Selves: Discover and Understand More of Who We Are in the Quest Magazine. The review stated, “The authors posit that whereas ancient polytheistic societies may have projected their felt personal multiplicity onto their god forms, the more recent monotheist traditions may have given root to the currently popular single-self assumption, which views every human being as a singular identity. Throughout the last century, especially, any mention of multiple personalities in a given person was assumed to be pathological.” The review goes on to talk about multiple personalities within a healthy individual. I drooled as I read those heaven-sent words.

We currently say that people who have more than one distinct personality suffer from dissociative identity disorder (DID). These personalities function separately and do not communicate. I saw someone on the Phil Donahue Show who had a scar while in one personality and did not have the scar in the other personality. The TV audience watched in awe as the scar disappeared from the DID man’s face. What a tribute to the efficacy of mind over matter.

The Quest magazine review felt like fresh air because I had never heard anyone talk about “my” theory. From my years of working with others and observing myself, I found that most people have more than one personality. Think Jekyll and Hyde, but most personalities are not that extreme. The theory is somewhat akin to Eric Berne’s definition of ego states. We all know about the inner child that often motivates and directs our inner and outer behavior. Berne’s theory goes into detail about how different parts of ourselves act and react in certain ways, and how these parts are influenced and formed by our association with our parents, grandparents, etc. My husband has two very distinct personalities. Each one seems to vie for his attention.

In contemplating these aspects or personalities, I identified an emerging personality in myself. Even though this personality is not one I would consciously choose, it is here none the less. Maybe I do not have two personalities; maybe the theory is wrong; but it feels like I live within the context of personality multiplicity. I decided to write about a couple of aspects of me.

There is an old woman in me. She emerges, slumped. She ponders her itching, sagging skin. She doesn't care. She is past the time for lotions and potions. She wants to eat and sleep, watch TV; just veg. She is tired and wants to rest. She wants to abdicate her freedom to others. She wants to be still and sit; watch her breath, play with the wind as an observer. She is through with untamed pursuits. She wants to tend flowers. She is less steady, less sturdy. She, this emerging part, is overlooked sometimes, for someone else in me thrives with activity, vigor, and productivity, but she is coming. She is not an elder; she is more like a hibernating bear, one who dare not be bothered with complex philosophies. She is afraid to drive, does not seek new adventure. She would rather wash her clothes than fly to Spain. She loves to rest. She does not want to jump into life, she wants to settle in.

But, and this is a blazing, fire-filled but, she has to cohabitate with a maniac who grabs life by its roots and shouts from the rooftops. Her roommate bungee jumps in her mind and sends thoughts to play in the uncharted playgrounds of consciousness. She plants seeds of vitality in every moment and flirts with life. She is like the blushing bride of the wind, riding each hurricane with breath-filled delight. She’s not just like the wind; she is the wind.

Can these two get along? Maybe opposites do attract, because when an old lady lives with the bride of life, the mix is solid and exotic. Excuse me, because I am going to bring up an old, worn out, overused, trite-to-the-max saying. Brace yourself; here it is: I never promised you a rose garden, but I did promise a gentle wind and an eager anticipation. I did promise limits and boundless awareness. I did promise ennui and enchantment. I did promise an inner knowing and confusion. I did promise chaos and order. I did promise wisdom and naivete, and you can place these anywhere you want. They can go in the old woman or in the whippersnapper, or even in the wigged-out expression of whoever you want to be in the moment, for I am one of those parts, one you, as you might say, and I have created you to be the remarkable being that you are. I hope every one of you can get along and help out with your life, because it takes every inch of who you are to actually be who you are. You cannot leave any one out, and when you call all of your selves to the table of your life, I know that you will find that life becomes EZier and EZier.

This group is a place to post uplifting affirmations and thoughts about prosperity and abundant living. Let’s create a right relationship with money so that we feel comfortable about money. Let’s use money as it’s meant to be used, and not as a way to accumulate power or to fill a void. We don’t need money to buy more stuff. We need it to create a world that works for everyone. We want to cast off old beliefs of lack and reclaim our natural state of abundance. Anne, AKA Dr. Money, posts a nightly goodnight video for the prosperity team, and everyone who watches those videos becomes a part of the prosperity team.
