Life is mysterious. Strange turns lead to interesting places - places that common sense and predictability could never have taken us. As we learn to go with this flow, we find that even in the midst of animosity, chaos, and uncertainty, life continues to blossom.

Choose Your Word

The 5-5-5-5 Plan

I have a great game I play with myself. I do things in fives. I go into the kitchen and do five things that need doing. I go to my desk and file 5 items. I do five things on my to do list. My game gives me such a quick reward. Visit the comprehensive five plan on my web page. Click here The 5-5-5-5 Plan

Choose Your Word

Where is peace? It is everywhere. Most of us believe that life is a problem and we use the news or some misfortune, to prove our points.  Where ever we point our minds, our thoughts follow. If we want peace, then we must point our minds peaceward. There are so many words to consider and words can be so powerful.

When I was younger, I never understood the hoopla about the word "gratitude." I found it distasteful to be in a group that demanded a personal recitation of gratitude.  We would be in a circle and someone would have the great idea to go around and have a gratitudefest. One day I was daydreaming and this amazing feeling of grace and gratefulness welled within. It was as if the word gratitude came alive in me. It was not just a feeling; I was it. At last, I got the word gratitude and its meaning was alive in me. I still don't like gratitude on demand, but I know that many people find such activities empowering. That's why there just can't be one way to peace, because we travel different roads.

On the road we travel, there are many signs. Words are signs.  The word itself is not the direct experience of what the word means to convey. It is just a pointer to something that cannot be expressed in words, but we use words none-the-less. When I felt this amazing essence, the word gratitude alone was inadequate to express this expansive all-consuming experience. My experience brought me to the understanding that words are filled with energy. Words are living presences in themselves.

I have several words I love. I think my favorite word is fortunate, even though I also love the word lucky. Fortunate is my formal word and lucky is my nickname word. Maybe you would like to find your word. Choose a word, the best word you can think of - a word you love, one word. Work with that one word for 7 consecutive days.  You might offer a thought such as "Teach me your knowledge, true essence and wisdom."  At the beginning of the day write down what you think the word means, then look up the word in the dictionary. Does the meaning expand or change for you? Rewrite your definition, if it has altered. Think of this word when you wake up. Take five minutes at the start of each day to repeat the word silently and contemplate it.   Next, begin your day with this or a similar affirmation.  "I go into this day with the thought of (fill in using your word). I mobilize the idea of (word for today) in my life."  Take your word into your day remembering and speaking it mentally as frequently as possible. Become the embodiment of its essence. Keep a word journal and record your daily insights. At the end of the day write down your understanding of the day and as you drift off to sleep, repeat your word.

After your seven day word bath, see how you feel about this word. Is it your word? If so, keep it, but if you would like another word, just repeat the process. You can even have several words. This is an experiment. There is no right or wrong way to do this. It's just having fun with creating meaning in your life. In our hustle and bustle world and our blaring forms of entertainment, maybe it's time we try something more introspective. Act now and join the relaxation word celebration exercise!
