A Note From Anne
Dear ,
I had company this week, Liah Holtzman, I was elected President of the Houston Theosophical Society, and I think we have another rodent. We haven’t seen hide nor hair (excuse the over-used trite reference to my rat search – I think this experience is messing with my psyche) of a rat until last night. I didn’t leave the kitchen light on, as has been my habit to deter nocturnal activities, but last night our buckwheat sprouts (they are growing in a 15" by 15" pan) had crop circles. There were no droppings, but I have almost ruled out ET activity. That’s my week in a nutshell. Take it EZ. Make it EZ. Live well and prosper.

Is Your Bliss Amiss?
Do you have a friend that you know loves you? You feel warm when
you think of this person.
Imagine your life as a stage and your audience is filled with
people who love and admire you - an audience full of people just
like your friend. Their approval is there whether you are making a
mistake, doing something brilliant, or doing nothing at all. Your
audience is your support team. If you close your eyes and imagine
this scene for only a few seconds, you will probably feel good.
Why do we even need to imagine approval? Too often we mentally
carry a team of critical opinions. Those voices are a compendium
of negative statements we’ve heard from our family of origin,
culture, and authority figures. Some of the recorded messages were
destructive and life-denying, and some started out as benign, but
when they passed through our filters of disapproval, they became
more information in the “I’m not okay” file. This stored
mis-information creates a cruel "story of you" and it stands as a
true tale, even though you may accomplish impossible feats, be
financially successful, or live a seemingly charmed life.
The story we hold about ourselves is self-constructed. Even though
others may have given the ideas to us, these people are no longer
a part of our lives, and only our minds hold the keys of
emancipation. Are you ready for a reconstruction?
Get ready, get steady, and turn your mind inward for emotional
reconstructive surgery. Close your eyes, lower your head, and hold
your arms close to you in a folded position. Go back to that
audience that is filled with those who champion you. If you can't
picture a particular face, think of the audience being filled with
angels, scholars, religious figures, or poets, anyone you admire,
even if you never knew them personally. Feel yourself on stage and
drink in the love energy emitted by your audience. This energy is
just for you. Get a firm image in your mind and establish an
encouraging feeling. Hold this image and feeling for a few moments
and even minutes. When you feel complete, open your eyes.
In the future, when you make a mistake, bring up the image and
feeling from your new management team. Feel their unlimited
compassion. Don't let the old team take over and retell that old
story of how bad you are. Bliss is the feeling of peace and
well-being. If our inner conversation is one of pain and struggle,
we miss or bliss. Each moment is the opening act in the play of
your life, and you can make sure it's a good act.
I love you and I approve of this message. Cheers to you as you
discover, uncover, and recover the real you.
Health Tip: I Am Responsible for My Health
My friend Liah visited me for a few days. I told her about my love affair with peppermint oil. She said her naturopathic doctor told her not to use peppermint oil when she was taking homeopathic treatments because it was an antidote. My research shows that many naturopaths discourage the use of peppermint oils and some other oils, like menthol, while using homeopathic drugs. I am using homeopathic eye drops. I noticed how well they worked when I started using them, and then they seem to not be so effective. Maybe their efficiency dwindled due to the peppermint oil I was using on my poison ivy. It’s possible. I’ll add a PS to this. At the time I could handle the dry eyes much better than the maddening itch. The peppermint oil was a life saver and mental health aid. But for now I’ll stay away from the peppermint oil for a while.
I’m not recommending anything, except when you take any kind of drug, supplement, health aid – natural or allopathic, be sure to find out about the interactions. My friend, Judy, used to take several different kinds of drugs for rheumatoid arthritis. Once she got a new drug and I looked it up on the Internet. It was not to be taken with another drug she was taking – and it was one prescribed by the same doctor. Good thing I checked.
Our health is our responsibility. Doctors and other health professionals can be absent minded or ill-informed, just as we can, so whenever we add a new trick to our medicine chest, it's best to check out the interactions and the toxicity.

What people are saying about Standing in the Dark:
“If as you said, it is not a positive thinking book, then,
however, it is a positive being book, because positive has its own
rewards. You wrote very eloquently, and gracefully about very hard
to cover topics. More than that, your shadow is a light unto us,
Anne, and your night is like a day. I thank you."
– Veronica Nannee, Houston, Texas
“Someone asked me how you could be spiritual and live in the
world. Your book spells it out perfectly.”
– Helen Hutchison, Nacogdoches, Texas
Quotes
"The fear of life is a psycho-autoimmune disease… It maintains
the illusion that life is not trustworthy; it is not safe."
– John Sherman
"Who would you be if you let go of the constant need to find
something to make you feel better? If you stopped trying to fill
that something is missing feeling? If you stopped trying
to figure out what was wrong. If you stopped believing there must
be a way to make things right?"
– John Sherman
"Don’t take refuge in the absolute with the exclusion of the
relative. Don’t be so caught up in the relative that you miss the
deeper things, lest you become cynical, hopeless, and even
suicidal."
– Rick Archer
"Your newsletters are truly extraordinary. I understand why they take so long to create. LOVE your quote about positive thinking!”
– Donna Mosher, senior editor, Spirituality & Health Magazine

Ask Annie G
Dear Annie G,
I have problems figuring out what to eat in the morning. I
am in a hurry and sometimes need to take my food with me and eat
in the car on the way to work. Any suggestions?
Frazzled in Phoenix
Dear Frazzled,
The obvious answer would to get up earlier, but if that’s not an
option, I have a few suggestions.
- Try an almond butter sandwich for breakfast. Toast two slices of Ezekiel raisin bread and slap on your favorite kind of nut butter. It’s fast and easy to eat on the go.
- A banana or apple and nuts is also an easy quick meal.
- Two peeled boiled eggs. Don’t have a wreck trying to peel your eggs!
- Home-made trail mix made from dates or goji berries, nuts, dried coconut, and carob chips.
- A protein drink made from ½ frozen banana (or ¾ cup frozen
blueberries and sweeten with sweetener of your choice; stevia
works for me), ¾ cup of coconut milk, and two scoops of hemp
protein power provides a hearty meal. Use your immersion blender
to process the mixture. If you do not have one, it is the
greatest new kitchen invention made for decades. It is easy to
clean and takes the place of a blender, a mixer, and a food
processor, in many recipes or concoctions. Here’s a link to my
favorite kind:
Cuisinart CSB-76BC SmartStick 200-Watt Immersion Hand Blender, Brushed Chrome - Fill up a large glass with watermelon and top with three tablespoons of hemp hearts or ¼ cup of cashews. Take your spoon with you and eat at stop signs.
Try to put a “de” before your frazzle. Thanks for asking and
remember to eat well and prosper.
