  A Note From Anne

Dear ,

Friends of EZ (ease) unite. I'm calling you to give up holiday drama. Forget all the traditional suffering and come home to your natural state of EZ. Declare a state of EZmergency! Happy Holidays.

All that aside, I'm sitting on my bed, writing on my computer. I can remember when I dreamed of having a laptop so I could sit in my bed and write. That was about 5 laptops and over 15 years ago. Now I am living my dream and I love it. Sometimes I write outside, in my office downstairs, in my bedroom nook, or in my bed. I want to be where it feels right for me to be, and having a laptop, a smart phone, and a tablet allows me to be anywhere I want and still be plugged in. All those years ago, when I imagined how neat it would be to be portable, I was right. It is super neat. Technology brings complication and often frustration, but today I am luxuriating in the EZ it brings to me. I think computer suffering is just another form of suffering and I'm determined to give it up. Yes, it's time to unite and celebrate EZmas.

  Seven Steps to EZ

I'm all over EZ. I've been deconstructing and reconstructing my ego for decades and the following steps are vital in undoing to ego. I'm sure these ideas are not new to you, but too often we forget to utilize our innate wisdom. We are habituated to the day to day life we construct around unexamined suffering. If you want to decrease suffering and struggle while increasing EZ and aliveness, the following will assist you along the way.

  • Start your day with the idea that your day is going to be easy. Give up your mental burden when you awaken.  Remind yourself that any sense of anticipated hardship is a story you've made up. If you are already suffering (AKA worry) over something that is not even happening, you are stuck in anticipatory struggle. Most burdens are mentally constructed; that means you can drop them. As the master said, "My yoke is easy; my burden light."
  • When you encounter people, give up the idea of trying to "get" anything from them – their time, attention, affection, favors. Trying to "get" takes mental effort. The best way to have an EZier relationship with a person is to think about what you appreciate about them. If you don't like them, think about how you like a facial feature or something they are wearing. Get creative; just be in the mode of giving, not getting. This mental trick is guaranteed to lift suffering.
  • Take care of your body during the day. Keep your shoulders back so you can breathe deeply. Older people breathe 50 gallons less of oxygen daily.  Shallow breaths breed physical disease (long term lack of O2 to the cells) and create fear in the emotional body. Breathlessness feels like panic to our systems. Breathing fully brings relaxation and oxygen to the body and mind. It's an EZ fix.
  • Use the eight word miracle mantra: "Everything can be EZ or at least EZier." Use the mantra throughout the day to boost your mind and to dissuade your suffering habits.
  • Give up being a victim. Release the whiney thought, "Why is this happening to me?" and ask, "What can I do to make this situation EZier?" Life doesn't happen to us; it happens through us.
  • Don't compare yourself to others. You are you, not someone else. Whenever we compare, one person always comes up short. We use comparison to create inferiority and superiority. Take this pledge, "Today I give up making myself better than or less than others."
  • Expect your good today. Know that it will come through as emotional emancipation and freedom from struggle. Hold onto each moment as your expectation of good permeates your consciousness. When you move through the day in delighted expectation, you drop the drama and surrender control. Control creates struggle - it requires an unnatural kind of effort; anticipation requires letting go.

Use these seven steps daily and you will find that your life gets EZier and EZier.

What people are saying about Standing in the Dark:

"Standing in the Dark, by Anne Sermons Gillis, isn't just another positive thinking book. It's a book about the difficult times in life and what we can do to make it through them. It does, however, give us positive ways to make life easier. It's a short book, but it's one that may just turn your thinking on its head, which will probably be the best thing that's happened to your thinking in a long time. It's about how to bring more ease into a life that isn't easy all of the time. Anne discusses six main areas of life: Ease, Mission, Health, Relationships, Money, and Loss."
  – Charles David Heineke, Bonham, TX

What people are saying about EZosophy: The Art and Wisdom of Easy or at Least Easier Living:

  – T. Harv Eker - Bestselling author and Founder of Peak Potentials Training

What people are saying about Offbeat Prayers for the Modern Mystic:

"I love your book. It is filled with much wisdom, humor and heart. Really beautiful."
  – Alan Cohen author, Enough Already, mentions Anne and EZosophy on page 99

  Health Tip: Daily Jump Starter

Want to jump start your day? Need energy? Try these three things to get you going.

  1. You can do this while still in bed or standing. Raise your arms up, all the way from the body, not just from the elbows, and then lower them. Breathe in deeply as you raise your arms and exhale as you lower your arms. Do this five times.
  2. Make two fists and tap the top of your head 30 times with your fists.
  3. Massage the top part of your neck, where it joins your head, with your fingertips, for 20 seconds.

You’ll be surprised how you feel after these short exercises. You can even do them while in bed. They get you going and you can do them in less than 5 minutes. How easy is that?
