  A Note From Anne

Dear ,

Life turns on a dime. For several days I experienced so much anxiety, I thought I would explode. I did everything I could to relax. Gardening, shower, massage; I went to a movie. Regardless of what I did, I was having muscle contractions all over my body and I felt like I was holding a live electric wire in both hands.

Last night I got a chiropractic adjustment and my doc friend said I had some of the symptoms of thyroid dysfunction. I got out my trusty reflexology book and found the points for the thyroid. With gusto, I worked those areas. The next morning I awakened with that same dreaded anxiety.

I watched the movie The Secret last week. I haven’t seen it in years and I thought it might be uplifting to watch. I was right. There are some great healing stories in the movie. The movie features three steps to creating a new reality: 1) Ask; 2) Image (Visualize); and 3) Receive.

I lay in my bed and said “Help. I cannot live like this. Something has to happen.” I imagined myself feeling great and put myself in the mental framework to receive a healing. I hopped out of bed, walked with Jim and Lucy, and then got ready to go to the radiation specialist with Jim, who has prostate cancer. As we rode to the hospital, I noticed how completely relaxed I felt. What a miracle, and FYI, I’m keeping that dime!

  Word Medicine

Affirmations are the seeds we plant in the garden of awakening. They are tender thoughts of what might be. They offer a radical change from the destructive programming of the mind. They are missives of well-being.

There comes a time when we outgrow this form of nourishing, just like a baby outgrows its needs for its mother's milk, but when used in their right time, they become gentle moments of truth. Affirmations are pathways to a deeper knowing.

The following is an affirmative vision. It is an affirmation for wisdom and clarity. Reading it offers a mental haven. Imagine you are immersed in telling this story.

All of a sudden I noticed my mind was clear, my memory sharp. There was an awareness that was keen and bright. My being showered my consciousness with expanded wisdom and clarity, and now, in this moment, I am free, unfettered by memories and false constraints. My body is relaxed, my mind is still. I can feel my heart radiating a sense of well-being. I feel satisfied and fulfilled. The sense of a separate me is diminished, and I feel connected to everything. I feel the unity of life. I am a vital part of this living matrix. I am illuminated by life itself. What peace and expansiveness fill me. I am content.

Making up affirmative stories of how you imagine your life to be is a great way to nourish yourself. The above statement is word medicine. It sure feels good to write it. Try writing your own, and I bet your life will get easier and easier.

It does, however, give us positive ways to make life easier. It's a short book, but it's one that may just turn your thinking on its head, which will probably be the best thing that's happened to your thinking in a long time. It's about how to bring more ease into a life that isn't easy all of the time. Anne discusses six main areas of life: Ease, Mission, Health, Relationships, Money, and Loss."

Hiccuping

Has it ever happened to you? You lose control. People stare. Of course it’s happened to you because everyone’s hiccuped. It can happen to anyone at any time. Sometimes it’s hilarious to hiccup and at other times it can be embarrassing.

In medical terms it is when a muscle spasm contracts the diaphragm. The spasm causes an in breath and the vocal cords stop the intake; then we hiccup. We've all seen the stereotypical drunk on television, hiccuping away. Alcohol, being too full, stress, and swallowing too much air are some of the causes of hiccuping. Source

My grandmother taught me a great cure. Grab a spoon full of honey, swallow it, and the hiccups will disappear. That does work but I don’t carry around a jar of honey. My friend send this tip. “Stick your fingers in your ears and hold them and the hiccups will instantly disappear.” Unlike honey, my hands are always handy, so next time I feel that irregular ritual coming on, I’ll lift my hands and stick my fingers in my ears and feel the magic, and if that doesn’t work, I guess I’ll just be the happy hiccuper.

P.S.: According to the source above, “Hiccups affect males more often than females.” So females, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Sorry, men.
