  A Note From Anne

Dear ,

Today I leave for Costa Rica. It may be my favorite country outside the US. I love the clear water and the simplicity of life. The culture and the lack of technology forces me to shift into low gear. I stay in an quaint room, eat local food, and lose touch with the world. I can pick up my e-mails when I go to the end of the hotel and stand in a certain spot – there I can get wifi and can make a Skype call.

I travel the road less traveled by. I go to the east coast – it’s the hippie side. I love the clear Caribbean. It’s magic. How fortunate: it’s like going into another dimension. I’ll eat pineapple and raw young coconuts, I’ll snorkel in my leggings and tee shirt to avoid sun burn, and I’ll talk to people I’ll never see again.

Life doesn’t get any better than this, but it’s not because I’m going to a country I love. Life doesn’t get any better than this because the eternal now is always at its best. Now is this portal that stretches from what is local to that which is non-local. Better is infinitely present in all space and time and beyond space and time and knowing that always makes my life easier and easier. Pura Vida.

  Questions

When we live pillow to post in our minds and don't ask ourselves the important questions, we lose ourselves thought by thought. Have you asked yourself the important questions? These questions hold you accountable for your life and offer a guiding light in times of darkness.

  • Who am I?
  • Am I bigger than my desires?
  • Can I reach into my guts when they hurt and offer a gentle word to another?
  • Can I be compassionate when others do me wrong?
  • Can I really listen to someone when they speak?
  • What are you saying to me that is bigger than the words you speak?
  • Who am I without my “to do” list?
  • Who am I without my role, my position, my money, or my job?
  • Who am I beyond my body?
  • What do I bring to life?
  • Why am I here in this moment?
  • What lies beyond my thoughts and beliefs?
  • Can I be calm when it counts?
  • Do I gossip and criticize others?
  • Have I touched the hem of unconditional love?
  • Can I feel love in the midst of confusion?
  • Do I really want what I have?
  • How do I need to change my life?
  • What do I need to throw away?
  • What do I need to do or not do right now?
  • Whom do I want to make amends to?
  • Do my surroundings support my life?
  • Do I support the people I love?
  • Am I happy?
  • Am I suffering?
  • Is this suffering necessary?
  • Am I too dramatic about life?
  • Can people count on me to keep my word?
  • Do I take care of myself?
  • Can I accept love and support from others?

There are so many more questions we might ask ourselves. Questions stop the mind and engage our truer purpose and desires. It is easy to move through life plodding along the well-worn paths of others, but when we question, we bring clarity and not only that, we make our lives EZier and EZier.

  Quotes

"If you never spend time with yourself, you will never know who you are. How much time do you spend with your phone, your tv, your computer? How much time to do spend following the trails of Sue Grafton’s or other mystery writer’s heroine? Are you there when you read, talk, or watch or are you just an extension on someone else?" – Anne Sermons Gillis

"Go gently into every expression of life. Meet each moment new and fresh, forsaking all prejudice, judgments, resentment, beliefs, and forms. Discover what is now." – Anne Sermons Gillis

"Love is the best guide for your actions and reactions." – Anne Sermons Gillis

"Standing in the Dark, by Anne Sermons Gillis, isn't just another positive thinking book. It's a book about the difficult times in life and what we can do to make it through them. It does, however, give us positive ways to make life easier. It's a short book, but it's one that may just turn your thinking on its head, which will probably be the best thing that's happened to your thinking in a long time. It's about how to bring more ease into a life that isn't easy all of the time. Anne discusses six main areas of life: Ease, Mission, Health, Relationships, Money, and Loss."

  Healthy Living

Digestive Enzymes

Aging usually brings emotional maturity and a laid back attitude, but it lets us down when it comes to digestion. It seems the older we are, the less effective our digestive systems. But I’ve found a couple of things that really help out: baking soda and digestive enzymes. The digestive enzymes help avoid incomplete digestion or digestion problems and the baking soda helps me when my tummy feels queasy after I’ve eaten something that doesn’t go down without a fuss.

Take the enzymes before your meal. It breaks down the food before it can form gas.  I always take them before I eat a meal of hard to digest foods, such as beans, and they work well.

If my stomach feels upset, I mix about a teaspoon of baking soda with about ¾ cup of water. I drink about half of it. In a few minutes I belch and feel better. If I don’t, I drink the rest and this usually helps. The soda neutralizes the stomach acid.

I’d try these before I'd try commercial antacids because they contain a bunch of crap.

  • Antacids may cause dose-dependent rebound hyperacidity and milk-alkali syndrome.
  • Antacids that contain aluminum hydroxide may cause constipation, aluminum-intoxication, osteomalacia, and hypophosphatemia.

And the list goes on. Check this out.

Happy eating, happy digestion, and happy tummy
