  A Note From Anne

Dear ,

We all have our stuff. EZosophy is really about stuff management. Since stuff happens, we must learn to be with our stuff. We don’t want to stuff it; it tends to grow underground and eventually it will erupt. We don’t want to live in our stuff; it’s just too stuffy.

Exposing our stuff is a great way to disarm our egos. When we can look at our stuff and not glorify it or make it wrong, we become stuff geniuses.

This newsletter is dedicated to helping us handle our stuff. It is geared to information and inspiration that makes our stuff irrelevant to living a satisfied and fulfilled life. Another name for "stuff genius" is and EZosophist. Become one of the thousands who are rededicating their lives to the EZ and joy of living. Live the principles of EZosophy and your lives will be EZier and EZier.

I’m going to see my little grands on Thursday. I’m excited and can’t wait to see two sweet little smiling faces. They are 10 months old! Wow.

Anne

  The Power of New

I have twin grandsons. One of my daughter's friends came up with an unusual and powerful gift idea for the twins. She wrote to all the significant people in the boys' lives and told them of her project. "Pick a year in the boys' lives. I picked 23 because that's how old I was when they met their mother. Write a letter of advice to them and mail it to Elizabeth (my daughter). They will go into two boxes and the letters will be opened by them in the year that you and others have chosen."

I selected 40 years old. My dad sent a meaningful birthday card when I was 40, so it seemed perfect to write them advice or wisdom for their 40th year. I would be fortunate to be alive then. When they are 40, I’ll be 105.

What to say to them? This is the first thought that popped into my head as potential advice, "I hope you are alive. Really alive. Being alive is just not the lack of death. Being alive is fully appreciating life and having a robust desire to be live."

I'm not sure what I'll say to the boys, but my thoughts bring up the question, "What gives us that steady drive to live? What gives meaning and pulls us into the joy of living?" The following collection of thoughts may point in the direction of heartfelt living.

As I awakened this morning my mind scampered away from the present. Elaborate schemes of activity surfaced. I could feel the burden assembling in my mind. The mind is so predictable. It's like a word scattering machine. The words go everywhere, searching to control, make sense of, give orders, and strategizing to keep us busy. The mind finds a task and does it well, yet being busy is not the same as being productive or fulfilled. The mind is full of busy-ness, yet it doesn't deliver the peace and grace of living. When the mind is the master of our lives, we live in the state of yearning or feeling like something is missing. Hopefully, we discover that full living is more the result of our inner journey, than from our forceful agendas.

When we look at life based on the idea that we already know how things are, how life is, and what to expect, we live in the past. Unfortunately, the past has the power to kill life. It routes our lives into a predictable course. It seems safe, but it's not really alive. It is an illusion of safety, not real safety and not real life.

What gives life meaning? This question haunts us. Maybe the best question is not, "What gives our lives meaning?" The question should be, "How do we discover the meaning life already has?" The Power of New provides the “how” and opens the door of the Power of Now.

What is the Power of New and why does it matter? The Power of New is the ability to look at everything with a fresh mind; to look knowing we don't already have to know how a thing is. This frees whatever is to be what it is now, not what it was in the past. In this looking through the new mind, there's a freshness. Reality becomes enticing.

Try the Power of New. Look at what is before you with eager eyes. Right now I'm looking at a cabinet. My mind thinks I've seen this cabinet before and therefore dismisses it as been there, done that. But what if I look at it as if it's new, never been seen before? There's a spark of life that comes forth. There's a new relevance to life that begins to emerge. It sounds odd, but when we see things anew, there's a peace, even a blissful moment of insight, which illuminates that which the mind cannot see. The heart awakens into its bliss.

As we practice life anew, or activate the Power of New in our lives, we tune into the Power of Now. People are afraid if they live in the now that nothing will ever get done, but, to the contrary, living in the now brings a radical efficiency into our lives. It creates effortlessness and dissolves the burden and resentment of living.

Most people look for the meaning of life and think if they can just do the right thing, or more of what they are currently doing, life will show up as exciting, awesome, and meaningful. But the future never comes. Now is all we can count on. Don't take my word for it. Discover life yourself. Practice the Power of New. See life from fresh eyes. Don’t think you already know. Use a beginner’s mind and you will find yourself living the Power of Now, and, of course, you'll find, that in the now, life is not only easier and easier, it is truly alive and meaningful.

Anne's book, Standing in the Dark, is a salve for the out-of-control mind. In a high-speed society that forces time to do double-time and stuffs minds with inestimably complex information, we need mental medicine. Popular mind-bending methods encourage us to come up with the highest thoughts, to be positive and powerful, and to live our passion. Yet that which is the highest is beyond what words can touch.

One may use thoughts in constructive ways and think higher thoughts, yet one must be aware that the mind plays little tricks on itself to calm itself down. Trickery is okay, but the whole idea of choosing our thoughts and our lives is an intermediary step. Through choice we learn to gain control of our minds and lives, so that at some point we can surrender the mechanism that chooses.

Standing in the Dark explores the deep issues of life, which include relationships, health, money, loss, mission, and making life easier. This is not a positive thinking book. It looks at uncomfortable topics such as losing your best friend or being robbed at gunpoint. It points out that life can be bumpy, even when we live in the flow. You will leap from the practical to the possible, and hopefully land in the mystical.

Standing in the Dark turns ordinary moments into sacred moments and lights the darkest corners of existence. The words hold hands with the human heart and allow the readers to embrace their humanity. This book heals the heart by letting you know it was never really broken, you are fine the way you are, and life itself is as it should be. Relax. All is well.

Massage Balls

Do you have tight shoulders? It’s not unusual. A deep tissue massage is heaven’s touch to our back and lower neck. But suppose you need relief now and you need it often? Here’s a solution.

Tennis Ball      Tennis Ball

  • Get two tennis balls.
  • Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet on the floor in front of you.
  • Place the two tennis balls beside your upper shoulder blades. The balls would be between the top angle of the scapula and the spine. This is the spot where a group of muscles converge.
  • Lift your butt off the ground and use your feet to move your body around. The balls should move around and press deep into the muscles. You can vary the pressure.
  • Getting up from the floor is easy if you turn over to your right side and then push yourself up with your hand. Of course, if you can’t get up and down from the floor, forget this. Go directly to a masseuse or masseur!

This technique is not for everyone. You know how much pressure your back can take and maybe this is too hard on your back, but for me, it’s a life saver.

Be smart when you take suggestions from others. Listen to your body’s wisdom.
