A Note From Anne
Dear ,
Many people ask if we are moving before our house sells. The answer, “No.” We have our house on the market and plan to sit tight until the money is in the bank! Please send good thoughts that we have an easy sell and an easy move. Here’s a link to a slide show of our house. Maybe you know someone who might be interested. You'll enjoy the show even if you're not interested in buying it.
It’s all I can do to keep from feeling like my life is on hold, but life is getting more spacious as I discard old papers and sell furniture, and there is a new freedom emerging. I no longer feel that I am drowning in things. I had a friend tell me she has more than 200 hats. She was pleased to relay that news, and while that’s good for her, for me, it would be too much. I no longer want 200 of anything. When I was young I didn’t understand the idea “less is more,” but it is becoming my living aphorism.
Emerge into EZ (pronounced “ease”). Its call is everywhere, at all times. Everything will not always be EZ, but everything can be EZier, whether that means cleaning the car, moving, dealing with loss, or servicing a snarly customer. Even the depths of hell has hot spots, and we can learn to avoid them. We can all be touched by this endless philosophy of EZ that lives always and is available right now.

Eliminating the Getting Disease
Today’s world is full of desperation and pain, and within this urgency is a relentless push for more. More is the supposed key to happiness, power, wisdom, and understanding. More makes everything better, and the way to more is through getting. Getting is the act of forced acquisition through efforting, stress, struggle, and strain. Getting is motivated by fear. Whenever one achieves their goal through getting, there is a temporary high followed by a letdown and the resurgence of the drive to get more. Getting is a disease.
Receiving is different. It is the non-efforting, relaxed ability to enjoy life as it flows to us. With this flow comes good in many forms, both physical and emotional. In receiving we trust that good always comes our way, even if it takes a circuitous route. From the position of receiving, life is lived in deep awareness and appreciation of everything.
When we feel anxious and upset, we can be sure we are in getting mode and that we are not getting what we want. Our desires are elusive and we fear that we won’t get enough of “more.” Our push for more is the synthetic journey that leads us away from our true destiny, and that destiny is love. It is not just a destiny; it is both the journey and the destination. Love is both the heart of life and the body as well. Love can only be received, experienced, and realized. It cannot be gotten.
When we find ourselves driven by our egoic mind to get more information, success, or possessions, it's time to practice the laws of receiving.
The Laws of Receiving
- Gratitude – Looking at life through the eyes of gratitude and appreciation jump starts our ability to receive.
- Giving – Giving allows us to focus on the abundant nature of life. When we give money, even a small amount, it unlocks generosity. When you give money, bless it; see it going out and blessing others. This act places our minds in flow rather than on lack. Giving from the heart erases fear and greed. Give love, compassion, time. Giving builds our generosity muscle. Never give to get. Giving is the gift itself, and when we give from the heart, we simultaneously receive.
- Surrender – Learning to surrender is paramount to the receiving process. It’s like drinking in the universe rather than chasing after it. Surrender is not resignation. It is a clear understanding that the egoic mind cannot effectively run our lives. We surrender when we stop our over-analysis, our scheming to make things happen, and our need to fix everything. It is the understanding that nothing is broken.
- Letting go of grievances – Holding judgments and grievances blocks our good. When we feel malice toward others or toward a situation or event, we form a roadblock to our well-being. Letting go of grievances simply means to give up the upset we hold about someone or something. Grievances are high drama. Forgiveness is the key to dropping the drama.
- Embodying innocence – It is important to experience the innocence of our being. Guilt is the human imperative, and it is our soul’s mission to awaken from that condition into the experience of innocence. Until we uncover our hidden sense of guilt, we create situations to punish ourselves.
We can use these practices not to only awaken us to receiving, but to heal the “getting disease.” We must move our mind and emotions from harm’s way, and the laws of receiving are the perfect way to protect our tender hearts. When we practice these laws we will find that our lives will be EZ or at least EZier.

Standing in the Dark

Anne's book, Standing in the Dark, is a salve for the out-of-control mind. In a high-speed society that forces time to do double-time and stuffs minds with inestimably complex information, we need mental medicine. Popular mind-bending methods encourage us to come up with the highest thoughts, to be positive and powerful, and to live our passion. Yet that which is the highest is beyond what words can touch. |
One may use thoughts in constructive ways and think higher thoughts, yet one must be aware that the mind plays little tricks on itself to calm itself down. Trickery is okay, but the whole idea of choosing our thoughts and our lives is an intermediary step. Through choice we learn to gain control of our minds and lives, so that at some point we can surrender the mechanism that chooses. Standing in the Dark explores the deep issues of life, which include relationships, health, money, loss, mission, and making life easier. This is not a positive thinking book. It looks at uncomfortable topics such as losing your best friend or being robbed at gunpoint. It points out that life can be bumpy, even when we live in the flow. You will leap from the practical to the possible, and hopefully land in the mystical. Standing in the Dark turns ordinary moments into sacred moments and lights the darkest corners of existence. The words hold hands with the human heart and allow the readers to embrace their humanity. This book heals the heart by letting you know it was never really broken, you are fine the way you are, and life itself is as it should be. Relax. All is well. Standing in the

Healthy Living
Healthy, Delicious, and Easy
If you have a sweet tooth, here’s a quick fix. Eat it for breakfast or tweak it for a delicious dessert.
2 Tablespoons unsweetened coconut
2 Tablespoons hemp seeds
1 Tablespoons of pure maple syrup (This is very sweet, so you may want try ½ tablespoon and add more if you prefer it sweeter.)
Add a dash of cinnamon if you are a cinnamon lover.
Mix and eat. It makes a quick, filling breakfast. Double the recipe if it’s not enough for your breakfast. Get creative: add fresh strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries. What a healthier choice than a sticky bun!
For a dessert alternative, add 2 teaspoons of powdered carob or powdered cocoa. For an added zing, add a dash of cayenne. Great afternoon snack picker upper.
As in any recipe, use the amount of the ingredient that suits your taste. You can use half carob and half chocolate. You can increase the amount of chocolate or syrup. You can substitute xylitol or agave for maple syrup.
Creating food can be a personal and intimate activity. Cooking, or in this case mixing, for fun can be easy; it’s like piddling. It’s relaxing and inspiring, not to mention tasty.
