  The Anne Report

Get Help When You Need It

Dear ,

Saturday I flew to Charleston, SC. I sat next to a couple who were returning from a trip to Las Vegas. They had $1,100.00 front row seats at a Celine Dion concert. They showed pictures and spoke of the amazing concert. They loved her singing, but they were captivated by her humor. They said the accomplished singer had people teary eyed with laughter. It was less than two years ago that her husband of 22 years passed away, yet Celine pulled herself together, and is not only performing again, she is entertaining people. When we ask is there life after death, we usually think about the deceased, and if they continue to exist in another dimension, but the question could as easily apply to the life of the survivor.

I recently met a woman whose husband died suddenly. It was obvious she had not yet survived his death. She was grieving, and her life was at a standstill until she reached the point where she could really live again.

We cannot know what life holds, but we can be sure that if we are alive, it is meant to be, and we need to get support to move through any losses we might endure. We can lose a partner, a friend, a business, or a job, but regardless of what losses we encounter, we need to get help in moving through our loss.

There are many support groups, including online groups, to help us deal with losses. Community hospitals offer groups, and meet-up groups have a variety of meetings to help with loss. If you have experienced a loss recently, reach out. It could be the loss of your sobriety, the loss of your health, or the loss of a family member. Ancient cultures lived in such close community that support was always available, but in today's world we have to make an effort to connect.

Once I was in a very bad space. I called to the universe and immediately had a strong impression to pull out a certain book and look in the back. The book had information about a certain course. I looked up the course and found one was to be offered in a week. As providence would have it, the course was located near my home. I attended the class and found a new community that I had much in common with. My call to the universe was, "If I don't find others soon, who believe as I do, I'm giving up on this." Within two weeks of my cry for help, I found a community of more than 200 people who believed as I did. I reached in and found the support I needed.

We are so used to trying to be strong and do everything by ourselves. We try to live as oak trees, strong and stalwart, but we need to be like willows, flexible and often touching the ground. There is always help. We need to believe that we will get what we need when we need it. When we begin to have a radical faith in life, all doors open. We have to quit hiding behind the doors of pride and ask for emotional support when we need it. Friends help us carry our burdensome sorrows.

I have no idea why I am writing this. I had no intention to write about loss and support, but I trust that when words fly from my keyboard to the computer, somebody needs to hear the words I'm writing. Someone reading this needs to seek help, and this is your sign. No more hiding, no more secrets – get help.

I'm still in Charleston, having a wonderful time with my sweet grandchildren. Have a great week, and remember, everything can be EZ or at least EZier.

Thought/Emotions

What is the origin of thought? Some thoughts come unobstructed from a pure place. They ring true and touch us deeply. Other thoughts are contaminated. All thoughts, the good and the bad, form a composite of emotions that serve as an energetic barrier. Pure, unbounded energy and intelligence hits this barrier and is shaped by color into forms. Some are beautiful forms, while others look murky. When a thought originates, it is preverbal. Many thoughts never become words; they remain as undifferentiated energy. Thoughts that become words travel a long way to reach their destination, which is our conscious mind. Most thoughts stay in our unconscious mind and run us like a drill sergeant.

Some of these resonating patterns of energy and vibration are more freeing than others. Reservoirs of beliefs are filters. Some are life-enhancing, while others are life-threatening. When we have more deposits of life-denying energetic patterns than life-supporting ones, we tend to live melancholy or even tragic lives. These patterns can be described as programs. In some ways our minds are programmed like a computer. We can alter our programs using therapy, by changing our thoughts and minds, by changing the words we speak, and by using affirmations, breathwork, bodywork, and meditation. Affirmations and word changing therapy work on the conscious mind, while meditation, bodywork, and breathwork dissolve these energies at their origin.

It's good to start changing these preprogrammed emotional reactions by changing our words and thoughts. The old saying, "Change your mind; change your life," goes a long way. These therapies are not only helpful, they are necessary. These popular, mental, personal growth tools weed the garden of our minds, while breathwork, bodywork, and meditation work on the soil of our thoughts and emotions. The emotions and thoughts that give us the most trouble are not only buried deep within our psyche, they impregnate our cells and organs. The mind and emotions are not a sole function of the brain, as we know it; all our cells have intelligence and decision-making capabilities. That's why a simple approach like positive thinking can't do the complete job. Our bodies are as much invested in our emotions as our brains.

I was 33 when I had my first rebirthing session. Rebirthing is a brand of breathwork founded by Leonard Orr. The session blew my mind. I blubbered and quivered. I laughed and felt great peace. It felt like I was running an emotional marathon. Layers of burdens dissolved. I felt lighter when I left my session and eventually became a breath worker. Why? Because working with the mind was only a starting point to healing. And working with the mind and body wasn't enough either. I needed meditation. Now I combine meditation and breathing and feed my mind with optimistic information. I weed my words to some extent, because a tirade of negative words, repeated frequently, creates chaos, but I don't have to watch each word, because doing that thwarts creativity and spontaneity.

We are on an exciting adventure. This is the party planet – not a get drunk, go crazy kind of party, but a grand celebration with friends and loved ones. While we might have sufferings, we also have joys, and when we receive information about how to ease suffering and increase joy, we don't need to take it up as if it were a burdensome homework assignment. We need to fit each piece of information into our hearts and see if it is ours to do. If it is, we feel enthusiasm and anticipation. If it is not ours, then we feel hesitancy and fear. If we have both hesitancy and enthusiasm, it's probably ours to do.

Change, even good changes, can bring up fear. Getting rid of our emotional triggers takes time, even for the spiritually seasoned. When we head up the mountain, there are many paths, techniques, and discoveries along the way. We will discard many of the tools that moved us along because they have served their purpose. We don't need to carry around the shovel after we've already dug the hole. We will wake up and go to sleep, only to find ourselves fully alive and exuberant and dancing in a circle of limits and endless possibilities. Don't take this seriously; the path is wide and big enough for our mistakes and humanness. It's a no fail journey and, as the movie says, "It will turn out fine in the end, and if it is not fine, it is not the end!" When we adopt a light-filled attitude about the journey from fear to love, we always find that life is EZier and EZier. Get out of the way. Life is here to stay.

Anne Quotes

"Don't criticize the moment. Don't throw it away. You might make changes later, but nothing changes what already is."

"Life is so much easier when we accept the unpleasant events and allow the magic to continue. No matter what situations we have in our lives, when we are open to life support, everything becomes EZier and EZier."

"We have access to deep wisdom. We touch the Universe's sweet spot. We speak with great depth and even inspire others, yet we know how the door to freedom and liberation is booby trapped. Without a warning, it closes, and we feel strewn about by the winds of fate."

"Those who are open to life's mysteries live in the dual state of heaven and earth. We are free and bound simultaneously, and reconciling those opposites is our life's work."

    Money Security

One of the promises made by Bill Wilson, in the popular 12 Steps of AA, is "Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us." There are many 12 step programs that deal with money, such as Gamblers Anonymous, Spenders Anonymous, Overspending Anonymous, and Underearners Anonymous. While AA and subsequent financial recovery based programs address money problems, these programs are not always available in small cities. People are more willing to admit they have a drinking problem or a sex problem, than a money problem. Therefore, they don't take advantage of the programs that are available.

Wealthy people often don't realize they have a money problem, because there is always more than enough money to pay for their overspending. "Shop 'til you drop" is touted as a peppy message of consumer camaraderie. "Retail therapy" is used to cover up emotions and to put off dealing with bad situations. There are poor people who do not have enough money to sustain a healthy and happy life, and there are people who have money, but they never feel like they have enough.

For many years I had a financial investment that afforded me an easy life-style. I could work when I wanted, but I had more than enough, and my desires were meager. I could travel and fulfill my desires, but what I wanted was limited. I knew that neither money nor experiences could buy happiness, so I wasn't jones-ing for the next trip or outfit. Then our investment failed. We lost a couple hundred thousand dollars, but the bigger rip was that we lost the ability to dip from what seemed like an inexhaustible money supply.

My mom was afraid of money, and she had bouts of mental illness. One time she gave all her retirement money to television evangelists. My dad, who divorced my mom when I was two, was a spendaholic. My money training was poor. I spent years trying to fix my relationship with money, and it is better. I seem to always come back to the idea that money and spirituality are incompatible, and that women who came from "a good southern family" should not work for a living, discuss money, or worry (as in be concerned) about money. These are deep seated beliefs, but they continue to crop up, as I deconstruct and reconstruct my relationship with money.

A few months ago, I had a dream, and when I awakened, I was given a plan by my Higher Power. I should spend five minutes a day picturing money coming to me. This five minutes was to be part of my workday. It was to be given equal standing with my writing or answering emails.

I was excited. I got the message. I started picturing money coming in expected and unexpected ways, and, during the process, the five minutes became sacred. I not only saw myself receiving money, I also affirmed for right relationship with money. I affirmed prosperity for all poor people, and for all who needed money relationship healing. I prayed that everyone on the planet use their money for need, not greed, and that we use money to support and restore all life systems, rather than to destroy them. I added my close friends and loved ones to this money prayer, and things started happening. I moved into a flow. Without effort, I picked up a client, a speaking engagement, an unexpected windfall. I seemed to be at the right place at the right time. Rather than having to call people, they started calling me. I began getting others to join with me to pray for an extraordinary money healing. They also began healing their relationship with money.

How do I do it? I picture people handing me cash, see notices that I've received a PayPal payment, I see checks coming to me in the mail, people handing me envelopes, and money floating in the air. The meditation brings up my money issues and seems to heal them.

When I was young I pledged that whenever I discovered anything that would help the prosperity consciousness of the planet, I would share it, and I believe this simple method yields big fruit. I prefer a relationship with money based on the feeling of enoughness than one based on lack and fear. If you struggle with money, try this. Do it for months, maybe years, but just doing this for a few days will not undo the years of programming you've had with the money teachers of your life. Good luck, and let me know how it's going.
