  The Anne Report

Our Summer Residence

Dear ,

We're settled into our campsite in Hollywood, SC. It's Lake Aire: http://www.lakeairerv.com/. We laughed when we got here, because the temperature was the same the day we arrived as it was in our hometown, The Woodlands, Texas. Sweltering. We passed a procession of campers headed north on our way here. Smart folks.

We are out for three months and I've never left home for three months. After we were on the road, all cares about what we may have forgotten to do or bring, melted away. It was a testament to the out of sight, out of mind philosophy. It seems that my life in Texas faded away when we left, and I'm easily adapting to my personal version of Days of Our Lives.

I marvel that we have all we need to live contained in 280 square feet. Our home in Texas is 10 times that size, excluding our garage. We live big in America; we are ardent consumers. Yet, there is hope, in this multigenerational era of consumption. Tiny home buyers are on the rise. We meet a lot of retirees who have sold their homes and live on the road as a lifestyle. There is also a move toward minimalism and decluttering. Everywhere I go, I see people downsizing. The current world population is projected to reach 8.3 billion by 2030. It's time for us to see that true value does not come from our possessions, and we need to do it before the earth sinks under the weight of our stuff. Yes, that is a silly reference, but the earth is overweight, and we need to go on a stuff diet. It's time to stop letting our possessions possess us. That's it for the Anne Report.

My Discoveries and Recoveries

I am fascinated with the mind. I used to think that there was a deep, dark secret, locked somewhere inside, that, if discovered, would be the missing link. Maybe I would uncover a terrible crime that was perpetrated toward me, and it was that hidden event that sabotaged my life. But I’ve ziplined through those mental realms for countless hours, year after year, and found no submerged catastrophe.

What more could I do? I learned to choose my words with care and to keep my tone in check. I swam in affirmations, confirmations, and realizations, only to find that the content of my mind was not as important as how I used my mind. I wondered if my mind was doing its job the right way. I needed to hold my mind accountable. I was out of options, but there were questions.

Did my thoughts race through like a freight train? Did every moment require a thought to direct each external event? Did I really need an opinion on everything? Did my mind screen out useful content, to prove its useless agenda? What kind of thinking was irrelevant to reality? These questions emerged as I discovered that valuable questions gave my mind a generous opening to what lay beyond its messy content.

Here are some of my discoveries and recoveries:

  • The mind is the ultimate erector set. Our lives are the construction site. The mind erects reality, then bulldozes it down.
  • We have a thinking mind, courtesy of the brain, and a feeling mind, brought to us through our bodies. These two must work in harmony. When the thinking mind becomes an emotional dictator, we suffer. When the mind befriends us and grows into a compassionate ally, we flourish. We need not sink into our emotions and let them keep us from living full lives, but ignoring them eventually brings us to our knees. Our western lifestyle encourages a mind-body split. Restoring the relationship of the mind and the body is our first step toward spiritual atonement.
  • When I identify myself as my thoughts and feelings, these expressions go into the world to attract events and they shape the way I view reality. My thoughts and feelings become things. When I step back, and allow my thoughts and feelings to pass through, they no longer become my world. This is freedom. Awareness allows me to experience reality rather shape it. The mind is a shapeshifter. Awareness notices, and, without a thought, lets go. The mind displays thoughts and feelings, parading them through our lives. They're the mind’s little pets.
  • Some words reach the mind, some reach the heart, and others land in the infinite place of well-being. They land in a place of wordless wonder, beyond the reach of our limited minds. These words recognize their home.
  • When we realize what we seek is already here, and that we are present to an overarching source of well-being, the burden lifts. We no longer see life as a project, nor do we fear each breath. Though we lose our status as the architects of reality, we gain our rightful place in the peacefulness of creation. We become a river leaf, ever-flowing into greater and greater majesty.
  • Spiritual Awakening requires a shift. This shift moves us from a world of acquisition, production, and succeeding, to a world of restful fulfillment. In this state of restful fulfillment, genius, creativity, and activism arise.

I can’t say I’m enlightened now, but my sense of self has settled down. Maybe Enlightenment, with a big E, doesn’t exist, but enlightenment, as an ordinary term, feels right. It means the action of enlightening. The realizations above have enlightened me, and the burden I called life is no longer what I created it to be. It’s more, so much more, than I could have constructed with my mind. I never needed to get my hands dirty, because right where I stood, there was always a clean, clear, reality spot. Once I spotted it, I was okay.

Anne Quotes

"What blessing do you seek? Does your mind bless you with compassionate good or mental nightmares? Awareness is the first step out, but only full surrender brings the essence of freedom. It’s not about surrendering the content of our lives; it’s about surrendering the content of our minds."

"There’s a thread of beauty that runs through life. It’s almost startling when we see it and realize it’s been overseeing every moment. Its ancient call lures us into brightness, bringing us into her fold. We are her creation; she our creator. Endless well-being awaits us in each pristine moment of this Beauty."

Affirmation of Being

"Ever-going, ever-flowing, ever-knowing is the essence of me. I yield to That. I no longer reference my identity to old definitions and limits. I celebrate the liberation of my egoic mind and assume my rightful position as my Self."

Join Anne's Facebook Group

This group is a place to post uplifting affirmations and thoughts about prosperity and abundant living. Let's create a right relationship with money so that we feel comfortable about money. Let's use money as it's meant to be used, and not as a way to accumulate power or to fill a void. We don't need money to buy more stuff. We need it to create a world that works for everyone. We want to cast off old beliefs of lack and reclaim our natural state of abundance.

  The Living Book

Click to learn about Anne's newest book, The Living Book.

Suppose someone told you that you could change your life radically, for the better, if you spent just three minutes a day doing inner work? Would you believe it? Maybe not, but wouldn't it be worth an investment of three minutes a day to try it?

The Living Book offers just this. Devote three minutes a day to this process and your life will become a living testimony to the seed principle. A tiny seed can grow into a mighty tree, but it must be planted. Plant your daily seed for three short minutes and notice both subtle and miraculous changes in your life. In addition to the daily practice, one can use the process when they are stumped or afraid or angry. This process transforms anger into love. When we plant seeds of light into our thoughts and emotional bodies, we move into higher frequencies of well-being.

  Healthy Living

Psycho-Biology

We all want to live healthy lives. No one would admit to wanting illness or disease, but when we look outside of traditional medicine, and into psycho-biology, we find that there are many subconscious choices that can create illness.

Consider the following:

  • We create illness to get out of something we don’t want to do. I had a client who had an accident each year before she was to visit her mother for a special social event. She had broken her foot, sprained her ankle, and broken a limb in previous years. When I brought this pattern to her attention, she was appalled, but that year, she said no to the event, and has had no injuries since. Cure: Become aware of the choice and learn to say no to things we do out of obligation.
  • We create illness to get love and attention. When we were young, we were often pampered when we were sick. We got out of doing chores and didn’t have to go to school. Our parents gave us special attention. For some, it was the only time they received attention. The subconscious mind therefore equates love and illness. Cure: Begin to create situations that provide love and affection. When I am in a group, I ask everyone for a hug. I love those hugs. Hugs are healthy. Giving love and affection to others, by expressing appreciation and holding back criticism, comes right back to us, in the way we feel while we are giving. Tune into the source of love. Love is always present. It is a force. It is the heart of God. Go there often. Rest in this love.
  • We get ill to slow ourselves down. When we go at a full pace, our subconscious mind hears us mentally wishing we had time to slow down, so it invents a way to deliver. If a cold or the flu doesn’t do the trick, the mind will accelerate its plan until we develop a more serious malady. Cure: Learn to turn down the intensity level needed to feel alive. Calmness practices, such as meditation, mindfulness, and conscious breathing, offer a natural way out. Alcohol and drugs are unhealthy choices. They offer temporary relief at the expense of numbing our awareness and ultimately taking away our health. I spend intimate time with myself by drawing, writing, and doing other creative endeavors. I call this intimate time, because it invokes vitality and enthusiasm. It’s me time. I had a friend who was a work-a-holic. He was diagnosed with incurable cancer. He sold all his possessions, bought a boat, and sailed around the world. His cancer completely disappeared.
  • We get ill to get out of financial stress. I had a friend who was in financial trouble. She was in her 70’s and her prospects for continuing employment didn’t look good. I think she saw illness and death as an escape. She was a brilliant woman in many ways; yet, to her, this seemed to be her only way out. She contracted cancer, and after a short illness, died. Cure: Get creative about money. Feed yourself with prosperity consciousness books and stories. See your relationship with money as an extension of your beliefs about your value, and raise your self-esteem.

I once was in group therapy with a brilliant therapist. He said that we often get sick to get attention and affection. I expected him to say how wrong that was and how we needed to learn a better way. Instead, he said, “Anyway we seek attention is okay.” I was dumbfounded, but it took the sting out of the judgment about subconsciously choosing illness. This man always said, “My job is to make you aware of what you are doing, not to tell you what to do.” It’s a good approach. When I take no blame and assume full responsibility, I am free to make another choice. When we are ill, we can consider that our bodies are following directions from our mind and emotions, and then see if and how we want to change, and when we do, our lives become EZier and EZier.
