  The Anne Report

Living in Cramped Quarters

Dear ,

We've been in the Lake Aire campsite over a week, and it's been more than three weeks since we left home. We have learned from our travels, especially, that if we ever lived in an RV, it would have to be bigger than our 26-foot home on wheels! Understatement. When we go from place to place, there's activity and excitement, but living in a tiny space, in the same location, has its challenges. When the temperature is hot and humid, when it's pouring down rain, or when the mosquitoes dine well, going outside is not a great option. We go inside. Living in the RV is like taking our lives on a test drive. What works? What doesn't work? My sister lived in a sail boat for about 10 years. She was alone; otherwise I don't think she could have done it. When I visited, I had to put up every item in its place, after it was used, because only a few items out of place cluttered the living space and it felt cramped. Small living quarters may be good for one, but for the three of us, that includes our dog, Lucy, it's crowded. And Lucy is miserable inside the RV.

Home, Sweet (Little) Home, on the road

There are countless ducks waddling through the campground scavenging for food. There's nothing like following a duck around with your eyes to settle the mind down. When we don't learn to settle the mind down, we continue to operate from the fight or flight areas of the brain. Continuing stress, whether it is internally or externally produced, shuts down different parts of the brain. When we reduce our stress levels and place our minds in alpha states, the brain can reclaim its original agility. Our focus changes from people, places, events, and things, to a more open focus. This open focus fills us with possibilities, rather than limits, and brings an awareness that allows us to shed the idea that life itself is a problem to be analyzed, fixed, or solved. That's it for the Anne report.

Thy Will Be Done

I discovered the Law of Attraction by accident. When I was young, I put myself to sleep by picturing the future I wanted. I would lie in bed and see and feel a wedding ring on my finger. I saw myself traveling. In the sixties, traveling, especially by plane, was less common than today. Air travel represented wealth and privilege. I was in my 20's when I discovered positive and negative thinking, along with Transactional Analysis (TA), the I'm OK, You're OK philosophy, from the book of that name. I became positive and assumed the position of I'm OK, You're OK. Life was peachy. I supported my husband and his skyrocketing career. I was a professional wife, and I expected consummate success. By the time I was 25, I had everything I thought I wanted. I had constructed the perfect world, yet I was miserable. There was something more going on, that couldn't be touched by my knowledge base. All my actions, longing, and enthusiasm landed me on top of the world, and at the bottom of my heart.

I spent years fixing myself and creating new worlds. I had a black belt in manifestation. With each empty success, I grew more impatient with life. My meditation practices yielded peace, but they also dislodged the demons that ruled my underworld. I began to exorcise the lethal content of my subconscious mind. It was slow going.

What I wanted reached deeper than creating the picture-perfect life. I needed to restore the missing parts of me that lay scattered through time. I questioned my desires. Fulfilling my desires had only temporarily relieved the subtle fear I carried in my belly. While people touted picturing what we wanted and needed, down to every detail, I became discriminating about my desires. I acknowledged many of them and even pictured them as being so, but moved my focus to surrender. Thy will be done became my mantra.

Two years ago we put our house on the market. This act created a lot of movement. I purged my possessions. I dreamed of the new future in Asheville, but our house didn't sell. There were a series of external circumstances that I attribute to the house not selling, but I knew the reason. My daughter said, "Mom, you can get anything you want. You know you can make this happen." I replied, "Yes, I can make almost anything happen, but I've discovered that I don't always know what's best. Even though I'm preparing to move, my main attitude is one of surrender. If I receive guidance that this is the perfect thing to do, and I feel that rightness in everything I am, I know it will happen, but I don't know what is right for me." Subsequently, we have not sold our home. We took it off the market and everything is fine. We have a housemate now, and we are spending a lot of time with our grandchildren and traveling in our RV.

The following are "Thy will be done" phrases that are helpful for releasing control:

Thy will be done in my mind.
Thy will be done in my emotions.
Thy will be done in my life.
Thy will be done in my body.
Thy will be done in this situation.
Thy will be done in my thinking.
Thy will be done in my perceptions.
Thy will, not my will (my will referring to the egoic mind).

I surrender to Thy will, knowing that Thy will speaks not to an external God who doles out favors, but to an indwelling presence that configures only the best for me. Thy will invokes a blessed life, and brings circumstances, events, and relationships that enhance my life. Thy will brings something that my logical mind cannot conjure up or defeat. Fully surrendering to Thy will takes the yearning out of my life and also saves my mind from endless contortions. If you decide to use the Thy will suggestions, get ready, because you can be sure that your life will be EZier and EZier.

"There is no measure for love. It has no depth or width. Its boundaries are boundless. There are no words to capture it, nor actions that define it. Love is the light that pierces the dark. It is the sweet sound that caresses the silence. It is the smell of a baby and baking bread, and it is the axis of reality."

"I don't want mind over matter. I want to turn my matter over to something much more intelligent than my mind!"

This group is a place to post uplifting affirmations and thoughts about prosperity and abundant living. Let's create a right relationship with money so that we feel comfortable about money. Let's use money as it's meant to be used, and not as a way to accumulate power or to fill a void. We don't need money to buy more stuff. We need it to create a world that works for everyone. We want to cast off old beliefs of lack and reclaim our natural state of abundance.

Suppose someone told you that you could change your life radically, for the better, if you spent just three minutes a day doing inner work? Would you believe it? Maybe not, but wouldn't it be worth an investment of three minutes a day to try it?

The Living Book offers just this. Devote three minutes a day to this process and your life will become a living testimony to the seed principle. A tiny seed can grow into a mighty tree, but it must be planted. Plant your daily seed for three short minutes and notice both subtle and miraculous changes in your life. In addition to the daily practice, one can use the process when they are stumped or afraid or angry. This process transforms anger into love. When we plant seeds of light into our thoughts and emotional bodies, we move into higher frequencies of well-being.

Forgiveness

Much has been written about forgiveness. I question that I can add to the conversation, but in my humble attempt, I offer this perspective.

Forgiveness is about releasing the upset about an event or circumstance, so it no longer rules our emotions or defines our identity. Compassion calls us to see the reasons why people behave as they do. We can hold them accountable for what they do without holding judgement, revenge, and resentment close to our hearts.

People cause pain because they have been hurt. Can we forgive them?

People don't pay attention because they've been ignored. Can we forgive them?

People are caustic because they have been abused. Can we forgive them?

People are weak because their strength has never been championed. Can we forgive them?

People steal because their lives have been stolen. Can we forgive them; not let them off the hook for the crime, but just show compassion? Can we let go of judgement?

People brag because they feel insignificant. Can we forgive them?

We all have shortcomings, and, if we are fortunate, those around us see beyond our weaknesses and into the light of who we are and forgive us. Why not be first in offering forgiveness? It's the quickest and most humane way out of judgement, so why not be first?
