  The Anne Report

There Are No Others

Dear ,

We are all a part of a collective human experience. It's called humanity. That's my belief, and to me that means we are all joined. Once a student asked Ramana Marharshi how we should treat others. His reply, "There are no others."

I received word on Friday that an old high school friend and her husband were missing. They were last seen headed out in their boat. Later, their boat was found floating, but empty, down the river. I had a vivid impression of my friend after I heard the news. That wasn't a good sign. Often when someone I know passes away, I see them vividly with my mind's eye. It seems as if the departed pass by all they've known and connect to pick up and collect energies and memories from their human lives. Ramana's pronouncement is true. We are all a part of each other, and when a transition is made by one part of the whole, it can be felt by another. Both of their bodies were recovered, and, unfortunately, my vivid intuitive knowing was spot on again.

Death brings life so much closer, at least to those who are left behind. It reminds us not to waste a moment. It's a sad reminder, especially when it involves tragedy, like the case of a joint drowning. RIP, my friend.

Today we are headed toward Hunting Island for a couple of nights, then we will make our way to Florida, and eventually back to the Houston area. It's been a wonderful summer with my sweet grandchildren, and I will miss them and inventing stories about Hoppy the Poppy Frog, Leonard the Poppy Frog, their parents, Ferdinand the Fox, Petunia the Pig, Otis the Owl, Tippy Turtle Two, Freddie the Funny Fish, Choppy the Happy Alligator, and Otis the Owl. And that's it for the Anne report.

Love Makes the World Go Around

The song, Love Makes the World Go Around, is catchy and uplifting, but I wonder, does love make the world go round or does the world, as we create it, operate from an undifferentiated, fearful space? Our news, our cultural divides, our sense of me or me-ness (I want mine, I need mine, everything revolves around me, I'm a separate being, all my needs are special needs and they dictate my thinking), dominate our worldview. Even if I stand on my tippy-toes, I don't see love's nature winning, at least not on the outer realms. Love's nature is freedom, but are we free?

We are not free to love until we experience unity, not separation. We can't hold a sense of unconditional personal regard for a few choice people and think we can experience the love of existence. Love is always present, but our mental and emotional constructs obscure it. It's time to raise our emotional IQ. The psychoanalyst Erich Fromm said that we expend too much energy on "falling in love" and need to learn more how to "stand in love."

How can we "stand in love"? To love those who agree with us and love us, is a start, but it's easy to love those people. To love those who bug us, is freedom. To truly surrender our hearts, especially when we are in the presence of people who drain us, those who prattle on, or people who appear vindictive or angry-righteous, these are love's greatest moments. If our hearts remain open and generous when people lecture us, teach us, and try to direct our lives, great peace ensues. To be nonreactive when others criticize us is the great challenge. These are the people, the ones who challenge us the most, who give us the ability for the final release.

If we lived in a culture where we had a personal spiritual teacher, we might recognize that when certain people appear on the horizon, it is the master in disguise. There are no chance encounters, and each person we meet is an assignment in the school of life. Being kind to all is a chance we must take even in the face of harshness, pettiness, and cruelty.

Our reactions to people must be based on our values, not on others' behaviors. We are like sailboats which are blown about by the winds of others until we allow the winds of our hearts to direct us. Everyone wants to feel loved. When we love others, love bestows a great blessing: we experience that love ourselves. We receive what we give.

Love is two sided: there is the love we give and the love we receive, but, unlike a coin, love is a circle and its movement has unlimited momentum. Drink deeply into each moment, because love is here: it is behind each word, under each rock, and out in the open, proudly displaying its kindness and compassion. Love will not compete with pride, control, or power, yet it is unconditional and shines on the just and the unjust. May each moment in our lives and each breath we take, be an invocation for this ever-present love. It is a perennial gift awaiting us, the receivers, and it is always with us.

It is our time rise and stand in love. It is our time to move from the "me" to the "we." It is our time to really make love be the organizing principle that makes the world go around, because when we do, everything will be EZier and EZier.

This group is a place to post uplifting affirmations and thoughts about prosperity and abundant living. Let's create a right relationship with money so that we feel comfortable about money. Let's use money as it's meant to be used, and not as a way to accumulate power or to fill a void. We don't need money to buy more stuff. We need it to create a world that works for everyone. We want to cast off old beliefs of lack and reclaim our natural state of abundance.

The Golden Rules of Conscious Relationships

One of life's most difficult situations arises when we get into a relationship. Whether it's with a boss or our own child, relationships often teeter on the edge of misery. The following suggestions can boost any relationship up to higher ground.

  1. Like the person. If you don't like the person, nothing else will work.
  2. Watch your thoughts when you are around this person. If the thoughts are "I'm better than you are (superiority)/you're better than I am (Inferiority)," you are in trouble.
  3. Respect him or her – not what they do, but who they are.
  4. Don't try to change them. When you try to change them, you are focusing on what you don't want. What you think about, you bring about. What you feel becomes real. Focus on what you like about them – the easiest way to turn your mind around.
  5. Don't trash your friends/significant other when you talk to others. This is a biochemical drama fix. It's gossip. It's okay to express your feelings, but "I feel like he is a jerk" is not an expression of one's feelings.
  6. Give them your attention when you are with them. Be fully present. If you want attention, give attention. The cost of giving is receiving. Listen. Touch. Look at them. Repeat what they say to you.
  7. Change your needs to wants; your addictions to preferences. – See Ken Keyes' Handbook to Higher Consciousness
  8. Be responsible for getting what you want. If you are not getting the attention you want, it is because you are uncomfortable with receiving. Learn to receive. The cost of giving is receiving – appreciation.
  9. Stand your peaceful ground. Don't get hooked into arguing. Arguing is a game to keep you separate. If you get emotionally closer or take a step closer to your friend or mate, the ego goes into attack mode, to make sure you stay divided. Arguing is the old paradigm of control, win, and dominate.
  10. Don't be Right: Be Compassionate. Forget the right wrong game. The ego strikes again.
