The Anne Report
My Prescription for a Happier Holiday Season
Dear ,
We spent the Holiday Weekend in Nacogdoches, TX. We had a Thanksgiving dinner with a dozen friends, attended a wassail crawl, played Farkle, and went to a Farmer’s Market. There was a full moon on Thursday night. It looks brighter when you are out in the country, as we were. We ate too much, moved too little, but had a wonderful time.
The holiday season used to creep up on us. Now it pounces at every turn. Retailers track our every Google search in order to deluge us with ads for what they have figured out we want. Look up something about Australia and soon you will be staring at discount flights for down under.
I can’t blame people for wanting to make money, but these days, we are hunted by marketeers. What can we do? Can we gain independence from the mayhem of the season? Can we escape?
Maybe you’d like to make the great holiday escape. It will take courage, concentration, and restraint, because if we are not aware of what’s going on, we will disappear into the consumer pitfall. We will eat too much and/or buy too much.
Here’s my formula for the holidays. Watch plenty of Hallmark movies. Yes. That’s for the women. Cook at least two old family favorites for Christmas. Comfort food brings back good memories and feelings. Play favorite seasonal music throughout the day. Light a fire and keep wonderful fragrances wafting through the air. I use my handy essential oil dispenser for that. The secret is to provide ourselves with so many pleasurable experiences that we won’t need outside help from our retail merchants. I can’t say this will work for you, but It works for me.
That’s it for the Anne Report. Stay warm and remember that Everything can Be EZ or at Least EZier.

Less is More
We enjoyed a big meal on Thanksgiving day. After dinner, Stan, my friend’s brother, delighted in speaking of his travels. The country he most enjoyed was New Zealand. I thought about which country I’ve most enjoyed but couldn’t think of one. The trips I’ve most appreciated centered around the people I’ve met, how much time I was able to play, or what great spiritual revelation occurred, not the location.
Last year we took an RV trip to West Texas. Most of our stops involved wonderful hiking or swimming in clear water. I’ve traveled to many countries, but this trip stands out because it was relaxing, fun, and I spent hours in nature. I serenaded a herd of more than 100 goats for an hour. The goats listened with rap attention. Each goat stood facing me as I crooned on. What fun. My audience included my husband, our dog, and the goats.
We met people from all walks of life. It was one to the best trips of my life. The trip was not about the location; it was about the content of my experience. Other wonderful adventures include drumming with indigenous elders on the Sedona rocks, deep dives, and swimming in hot springs, and under waterfalls.
While vacationing in S. Korea, I had a lucid dream. In the dream I saw a heart shape surrounding a beige carpet. Next my vision expanded to universal proportions. I was a part of a vast universe; then my perception returned to the heart shaped outlined piece of carpet. The dream was designed to show that the carpet was as much a part of the mystery and beauty of the Universe as the starry sky. The ordinary is as precious as the extraordinary. I loved my trip to Asia, but the Universe was quick to remind me that every place is the same. Each moment, each location, provides optimal and maximal opportunities for peace, bliss, and joy. Enlightenment is not contingent on location; it rests in the eyes of the beholder.
When I was young, I visited Italy. My husband and I went full speed, trying to see the art, museums, cathedrals, and outdoor fountains and sculptures. I suffered from a case of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). I came home exhausted. I realized that trips were no fun if I couldn’t relax. I vowed never to repeat that mistake. I wouldn’t try to do it all when traveling. Personal travel should be about renewal, not activity.
I’ve kept that self promise and have few expectations or plans when I travel. I miss many interesting sites and experiences but the old saying “less is more” applies. And it not only applies to traveling, it applies in everyday life. Have less, do less, and be less should be the mantra of the developed western world.
We live in doomed times unless we take time to be present and take care to keep our moments clear from the pressured intrusion of the unsatisfied mind. Some people want to burn brightly until they burn out, meaning pass on, but I want to rest a bit along the way and savor what is present. Our consumer driven, production oriented mindset makes us crazy, and we already live in crazy times. Crazy and more crazy are a poor combination.
We need term limits for ourselves. Our terms – we need to miss some opportunities. We need to relax. We need to have more fun, whether we are on a family vacation, a spiritual retreat, or washing clothes. And we need to live in the coulds, not the shoulds, because when we do, everything becomes EZier and EZier.

Healthy Living
What’s Your Best Advice?
Good health depends on a range of things, including a sound mind, good eating habits, and good exercise. It seems that aging should teach us how to be healthier. We’ve had a long time to learn the ropes and to figure out how to deal with living inside a human body.
What if someone who was 20 to 40 years younger than you asked you to give them your best advice as to how to live a long, healthy life? What would you tell them? What are the five most important things you would tell them about health and longevity?
Here are the five things I would share with them:
- Know your body. Know what every inch of your body feels like, so when there’s a little ache or pain, you notice it right away. Send energy to the pain. Rub the area. Ask the pain what it needs and then give it to your body. Figure out if a problem is starting. The more we notice our body, the more we inhabit it. We need to stay in our body in order to stay healthy.
- Learn to handle your emotions. Hiding our emotions leads to illness.
- Love and be loved. Love is the most powerful immune system booster available.
- Move. No movement: no vibrancy. The less you move, the more pains and illnesses you develop. MOVE IT!
- Eat raw foods as much as you can. Think apples, grapefruit, arugula, celery, to name a few. Eat something raw every day. The more often you eat raw foods, the healthier you will be.
The above are the five things I would tell a younger person who wanted to lead a healthy life. I may not have listed everything one needs to lead a healthy life, but if one follows these recommendations, the happier and healthier they’re likely to be. What five things would you tell your inquirer?

Abundance Affirmations
This group is a place to post uplifting affirmations and thoughts about prosperity and abundant living. Let's create a right relationship with money so that we feel comfortable about money. Let's use money as it's meant to be used, and not as a way to accumulate power or to fill a void. We don't need money to buy more stuff. We need it to create a world that works for everyone. We want to cast off old beliefs of lack and reclaim our natural state of abundance.
