The Anne Report
Dear ,
We returned home from our latest RV camping adventure. It was a laid-back trip, except that driving an RV and getting it set up takes a bit of manual labor. Doing the work in 90+ degree temperatures adds a lot of sweat. I always thought RV traveling looked so easy and fun. Year after year we would drag out our tent. We were always the oldest tent campers. I felt like an illegitimate old person because we didn’t have a camper. We would look at each other on each trip and say, “We’re getting too old for this.” We would look at others camping in their RV’s and say, “That’s the easy life.” We have friends who purchased a new RV. After about a year they sold it. I asked why. They replied, “Too much work.” These two are some of the hardest working, ambitious people I know. I’ve come to realize what they meant. Jim recently said, “I think tent camping was easier.”
Another week slipped by, with more sad weather for many, but our home was safe and dry during the last Houston flooding. There have been four 500-year floods in the past five years. I thought the term five-hundred-year flood meant a flood that only came around every five hundred years, but it means there’s a one in five hundred chance that a flood will occur. The nomenclature is confusing, but regardless of what anything means, there’s too much flooding in the area. I am not one to talk about the weather, but I’m still weary after the close call with Hurricane Harvey. Anyone who lives near a coast, knows how weather watching is not always a sport; it is a necessity.
I head back to the Charleston area on Saturday to see my grandchildren. I can’t wait. It always seems like forever since I’ve seen them. They talk a mile a minute, at the same time, and compete over everything. So is the life of identical twin brothers.
Our house is still on the market. My realtor and I have grown to be friends. My friend, Susie, lets me stay at her house when we have an open house. I do enjoy having a clean house. Fingers crossed. Maybe we will be moving to SC one of these days. And that’s it for the Anne Report.

Radical Spiritual Awakening
The more we wake up, the less divided we become.”
-- Adyashanti
Waking up is an idea that points to more than getting up in the morning. It is a spiritual concept. And it is a concept that our egoic mind commandeers as if it was something it could use to preserve itself. But despite the ego’s rouse, waking up is not a way to arm ourselves with intellectual protection. It is not even a task; waking up is an awareness. Take note of your breath – did you automatically take a deep breath when you turned your awareness to the breath? Probably so. Awareness knows what to do. It is a gentle guide that moves us from the idea of going with the flow to the realization that we are the flow. Waking up describes a process that changes our fear-based perceptions of defense, skepticism, and intellectualism to a position of surrender, calmness, and trust in the ongoing good of life.
There are two schools of thought that address awakening. One speaks to the evolution of consciousness. This journey is often called the grail search. It is a life-defining journey that takes us from one pillar of wisdom to the next. Through this journey we dissolve outmoded beliefs as we dip into the infinite nature of Being. There are points of emotional danger and setbacks, but they are offset by a handwriting on the wall that we recognize as the signature of the Divine.
The other school recognizes waking up as a point that is ever available, a choiceless realization of who and what we are. It is the awareness that we are one with everything. It is called nonduality, meaning there are not two, only one. While waking up is instant and reveals the pointlessness of searching for the truth, it usually occurs in those who have traversed the spiritual path, although this is not always the case. Eckhart Tolle and Byron Katie awakened when they were steeped in misery and depression, but purveyors of nondualism stress the potential for immediate awakening.
Regardless of which school of thought we espouse or whether we use a hybridization of the two, the topic of time comes up. We hear much about living in the now. Again, when it comes to now, we have two possibilities. One is physical time. It is the time on the clock, and it has deep psychological relevance in our lives. Right now, it is 1:00 PM, and I have ten minutes before I need to leave. The other time is the eternal now. It is an ever-present space. To complicate matters, time theories, whether they be scientific, philosophical, or spiritual, provide sliding definitions. If I’m sitting in a dull lecture, 30 minutes seems like an eternity, but if I’m meeting with a fascinating, world-class author who has taken interest in me as a writer, 30 minutes seems painfully short. And what scientist or philosopher can agree on anything, especially a multidimensional topic like time?
Let’s look deeper at the ceaseless now. It is the Presence in the eternal present. In II Peter 3:8, the Bible shares: “But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord, one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as one day.” It is an ever-present space, not a time on the clock. William Faulkner speaks to this paradox, “Clocks slay time. Time is dead as long as it is being clicked off by little wheels; only when the clock stops does time come to life. In his book, Atom-Smashing Power of Mind, Charles Fillmore counsels us, “Time has no power over one who dwells in the mind of God. There is no time to the mind of one who realizes omnipresence.”
Have you been awakened in the middle of a deep sleep? Or fought with your alarm clock? You did not want to wake up. Radical Spiritual Awakening is similar. We think we want to wake up, but what we really want is not to be disturbed. We want to stay out of trouble and to be able to navigate familiar mindscapes and emotions. The conscious mind gives us a convincing sales talk on waking up, while our subconscious mind orchestrates the cover-up. The egoic mind is like a used car salesperson: it lies to get what its master wants. Part of us does not want to wake up. Why would we not want to wake up? Because we identify ourselves with our stories, our delusions, and with the recognizable.
We are spiritual beings who went undercover as humans. Can we hold onto our tiny undercover positions? Some say that the whole of humanity is waking up. Are we – are we shifting paradigms? Is waking up no longer a solo experience. Is this a shift in the evolution of consciousness? Maybe the pull of the Divine outpaces our personal need for isolation and specialness. Maybe we can’t help but wake up.
The Maharishi Effect says when 1% of a group meditates, they change the frequency of the group in a very positive way, crime goes down, and there are fewer admissions to mental facilities. People are praying. People are meditating. Are we reaping the benefits of a higher calling and collective practices of a higher way?
Swedish biologist Dr. Carl Johan Calleman says The Mayan Calendar was not based on Astronomy but consciousness. He believes we are moving, for the first time, to a space where we are not driven by old events and old pains, to a time when we, as a global culture, can be creative, not reactive. If this is true, it appears that in this dark place in human history, there is a relentless light that shines for everyone to see. Maybe the planet is moving from functioning through the love of power to operating from the power of love.
The clock and the calendar tell us how time is always coming and going, but with the Infinite, time is always the present. It is always NOW.
What are the key words in the process of awakening? Could they be time, waking up, and awareness? The mystery is beyond words, but poet-mystics like Rumi always have something to say about the ineffable.
The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don't go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want.
Don't go back to sleep.
People are going back and forth across the doorsill where the
two worlds touch.
The door is round and open.
Don't go back to sleep.
Now is the time to awaken, but if we can’t make the adjustment, we can hold on to our expectancy and appreciation of life, and life will adjust us. And, as always, when we remain present and life-affirming, life is always EZier and EZier.

Healthy Living
Spiritual Purification Practices
Leonard Orr was a character. He came into my life in the 80’s. I called him and asked him to give a series of lectures in Memphis. He was happy to accommodate. From then on, I was a Leonard fan. He was outrageous, in a soft-spoken way, and talked about topics like physical immortality and death urges. I saw him on many occasions throughout the next 30 plus years. Once, when I was in my thirties, I went to his California rebirthing retreat center to heal my broken heart. There were many events at the center, including a sweat lodge. It was a thrill to sweat in the nude with others. I felt very European, and remember, I was younger, and my body rocked. We exited the lodge in the ice and snow. It was my time to get over the cold. Until that experience, the cold seemed to run my life. Being nude in freezing weather offered a turning point. What a Christmas in the mountains.
I’ve just spent a good part of two weeks in the wild. I went for a daily swim in spring fed rivers and biked daily. I ate wholesome food, watched deer and other animals make their way around the camping intruders, and walked my dog. It felt like healthy living to me. My husband, Jim, commented, “I don’t want to return.” It was paradise. I thought a lot about Leonard. He instilled in me the importance of swimming in pure water and how clean air and nature were powerful healing forces.
Leonard taught his personal brand of spiritual purification – one whose core message came from his trips to India. There were five parts to this purification process: earth, air, fire, water, and ether. My recent trip was one of natural spiritual purification. What are these techniques?
Earth – Earth purification means taking care of the physical. Exercise, eat well, get enough sunshine, and stay grounded. It’s common sense stuff.
Air – Air purification involves conscious breathing. Leonard’s main breathing technique is called rebirthing. It is a conscious, connected, breathing process that helps one dissolve fears and old drama that are held in the body. If one is unable to be rebirthed, by a professional rebirther, who becomes your breathing coach, there are many pranayama breathing practices one can utilize. YouTube offers a plethora of breathing techniques. I am a trained rebirther and work with people, on a limited basis, with their breathing. I practice connected breathing daily.
Water – Leonard recommends taking two baths daily, in clean water. The best water is natural water, in a stream, lake, or ocean, but indoor bathing works as well. I don’t do this now; I used to, but there’s no doubt that when we are upset, a shower or a bath helps us feel better. And guess what? Baptism is essentially water purification.
Fire – This involves sitting with a fire a few minutes daily. Leonard spent about an hour or more a day in front of the fire. He often slept beside a roaring fire. He believed this was essential for spiritual teachers and leaders because they take on the energy of their students. Being in the sun is also spiritual fire purification. I’ll always remember the nine hours I spent in the snow, alone, with the fire. Leonard took me to the forest, lit a fire, and told me to keep the fire going and sit there. After a while I thought I could hear the fire talking to me. It was one of the best days of my life.
Ether – Ether speaks of the mind. We must keep our minds clear, clean, focused, and well-fed. Prayer, chanting, and meditation feed the mind. Affirmations and thoughts of high quality create a firm mind.
These are powerful techniques, and I am grateful to have been in the life of such a great man and humanitarian. He taught me well. He made me think, push physical limits, and always think the best of myself. Leonard, I miss you, but your works goes on. Thank you. I bet if you try these, you will feel better and better. I practiced them for more than four years, and still incorporate them into my life when possible.

Abundance Affirmations
This group is a place to post uplifting affirmations and thoughts about prosperity and abundant living. Let’s create a right relationship with money so that we feel comfortable about money. Let’s use money as it’s meant to be used, and not as a way to accumulate power or to fill a void. We don’t need money to buy more stuff. We need it to create a world that works for everyone. We want to cast off old beliefs of lack and reclaim our natural state of abundance. Anne, AKA Dr. Money, posts a nightly goodnight for the prosperity team, and everyone who watches them becomes a part of the prosperity team.
You can also join the Prosperity Team by watching Anne’s Dr. Money channel.
