  The Anne Report

The Anne Report

Dear ,

Packing for our move is in full swing. We plan to leave at the end of the week for SC. It’s not for our permanent move. My daughter is going to Africa, at least she is as I write this, and we plan to do some baby-sitting. The world has gone mad with the coronavirus and I’m trying to keep my mind on healthier options. I know that what we think about expands, and I don’t want to think about the flu. I tend to be a hypochondriac anyway. When I read the symptoms of any illness, I have some of them. It’s best to stick to affirmations on health. If I’m going to have the symptoms I read about, I’ll want the symptoms of vibrancy, health, and well-being.

I just threw out some old letters I’d written to my deceased sister. She gave them to me when she was downsizing; now I’m giving them back to the earth, or at least to the recycler. I’m also pitching old journals and notes. We can thank Marie Kondo and Joshua Becker for paving the way and getting me to let go of old stuff. Some of it is poignant and meaningful, but I am overrun by meaningful memories and mementos and getting too old to drag them around. And that’s it for the Anne Report.

Face That Pain

Dr. Joseph Murphy wrote, in his book, The Cosmic Power Within You, about asking a question to one of his audiences: “What do you have to live for?” Some responded with Biblical references, from Ecclesiastes and Isaiah: “Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die.” While that is meant to mean “enjoy life as much as possible, because it will be over soon,” it sounds hedonistic. Of course, neither Solomon nor Isaiah asked me, but if they had, I would have recommended they say, “All good things are at hand, all life is sacred, let’s enjoy it, and be of good cheer.” Most people in Murphy's audience were waiting for something. They would travel when they retired. They would be free when the kids left home. His hair almost stood on end when he realized that, in what he thought to be a relatively enlightened New Thought audience, people were missing the essence and presence of life.

When I was young, my life hinged on the one more thing principle. I would be happy when the upstairs in my house was finished. Before the last wall was painted, I began planning a green house, which morphed into a fourth bedroom. Upon completion, there was a patio cover, then a new deck to house a hot tub; then there was an above ground pool. My next thing desires were insatiable. There was no end to my desires, and even when I got what I wanted, I was never satisfied. There was always something missing.

What was missing? My life. I was missing my life, and I was missing me. I ventured inward to find the missing pieces. Mediation leads one to vast inner journeys, and I was ready to go. Unfortunately, I took the same mindset into meditation. I became a spiritual materialist, and although things were no longer my goals, experiences became my pursuit. Could I have an out of body experience? Could I sink into bliss and forget my problems? Could I talk with, or at least hear, those on the other side? There was nothing morally wrong with what I was doing; it was intriguing, but I was still trying to mask my unresolved pain using spiritual means. Material consumerism let me down, so I turned to spiritual consumerism. I bought a book on Ceremonial Magic. The material was complicated, and the book contained only one piece of useful information. The advice went something like this: “Before you study and work with any esoteric materials, learn to deal your emotions. Go to a competent therapist. Deal with family wounds. Heal yourself.” Not being able to deal effectively with pain, anger, and grief was the place to start.

I had a sophisticated intellect that wasn’t too happy about this new plan. I was a minister and a therapist, and a darn good one, and now I was returning to kindergarten. Not only was I eating humble pie; others would see me eat it. “Yikes.” I was in too much pain to reject any idea at this point. I started by attending Adult Children of Alcoholics meetings and eventually founded a Codependents Anonymous meeting in my area. It was wonderful to expose my full self, not just the officially approved parts. Fortunately, most of the people in the meetings were like me. They were well-educated professionals, but we had one thing in common: when the pain made our lives and our choices hell, it was time to come out of our “I’ve got it altogether” closet and do some real work. I spent years and hundreds of hours in those rooms. Hum, who knew? Spiritual sophistication was a cover up, and the only things that could release me from pain prison was humility, acceptance, forgiveness, and wisdom. Life wasn’t that complicated after all. I can’t judge anything I did in the pursuit of happiness harshly, because a wounded animal doesn’t make the best choices. I had tried to build a dog-house when I still didn’t have enough to eat.

Here’s my take home advice. If you are in pain, you need help. If you ask for help from a friend, be sure they have time and the ability to help. Most friends want to give advice, but pain needs a place to land, not a quick fix to shut it down. Professional help, one on one, is probably best, but if you can’t afford a therapist, then it’s time to look for a plan that works for you. There’s a 12-step program that covers almost any kind of situation, but they all deal with the core issue of pain. Not only are they free, they help one create support and community.

Sit and ask each morning for the help you need, and affirm that you have what you need, when you need it. “I receive help and illumination today. I have what I need, when I need it. All pain is resolved and dissolved.” Be careful not to use poor me words when speaking to yourself or others.”

Life is hard, but it’s not hard all the time. And life isn’t the problem, so much as the pain we suffer because of circumstances and events. Best to deal with that pain now, because when we do, life becomes EZier and EZier.

This group is a place to post uplifting affirmations and thoughts about prosperity and abundant living. Let’s create a right relationship with money so that we feel comfortable about money. Let’s use money as it’s meant to be used, and not as a way to accumulate power or to fill a void. We don’t need money to buy more stuff. We need it to create a world that works for everyone. We want to cast off old beliefs of lack and reclaim our natural state of abundance. Anne, AKA Dr. Money, posts a nightly goodnight video for the prosperity team, and everyone who watches those videos becomes a part of the prosperity team.

You too can join the Prosperity Team by watching Anne’s Dr. Money channel.
