  The Anne Report

The Anne Report

Dear ,

I asked my husband what we did this week, thinking it might give me something to write in the Anne Report. He replied that we did little except go to the dentist. I laughed, because though we did not go out of the neighborhood, except to the grocery store, my time was filled with exercise, writing, and Zoom meetings. I am content to stay at home and, with modern technology, I can go around the world and visit friends without leaving my house.

When I was young, but not living with my mom anymore, I used to bug her about not going out. “You have to get out more, socialize, have more interests.” She told me that she was satisfied and did not need or want to be out and about, other than visit a friend occasionally, go to church on Sunday, or grocery shop. I was sad and thought she was wasting away. If she were here today, I would say, “I was wrong about that, Mom. Staying home is okay.” I wonder how many times I rolled my eyes at her, me seeing a glammed-up version of life, while she sought for and lived in simplicity and order. I think, in her wisdom, she knew the difference between an elder and an old person. An elder might stay at home and delight in the smallest of things, while an old person might become grouchy, opinionated, and waste each day as if there was no sacredness in sight. My mom has been gone for 16 years, and now that I am in the old folks category, I understand her much better. “Sorry, Mom.” And that’s it for the Anne Report.

More on the Supreme Okayness

You are free to believe anything or any way you want. I have my take on things and it is not a linear take. There is always an exception to anything I write or say. Things I hung my hat on 25 years ago have not only disappeared, they also took the hat with them! When I tell of my life and its challenges, I do not expect agreement, but I do hope that some of my words might soothe a broken heart or lend credence to your quirky ways. We are all quirky, but we live in a society that tells us that quirkiness is not acceptable. I was not always okay with being quirky, but I have adjusted, and I am rather proud that I have walked a path that took courage, vision, and creativity. And yes, I recognize you. I have seen you too, walking toward a richer, more fulfilling way of being.

Here is my story. It is not my only story. It is not the story. It is just one way I can relate my journey. I have been on a spiritual journey since I was young. I have taken trains, broken down cars, jets, and row boats on my journey. It does not matter how I have traveled. If I said I took a jet to New York from Charleston and became enlightened at the JFK airport, it would not work for you to book a flight from Charleston to NYC and expect enlightenment when you arrived. Some people might look at the enlightened me (you know I am pretending here) and think if they behaved like I do, it would guarantee salvation or enlightenment. That plan will not work, though it seems to be the basis of many religions. If I do this, that, and the other, like the master, I too will be like him or her. So do not believe anything I say without using your best discernment. Also, do not argue with it, because I am not trying to speak the infallible truth; I am just relaying my thoughts about life as I see it, from a disadvantaged position – through my body, my filters, and my past.

It is a big responsibility to be a person. We start out in tiny bodies, oblivious to what is around us. If we are fortunate, our eyes adjust and a loving face peers back adoringly. We grow, and, like little ducks, follow the lead of our parents. We may not waddle behind them, but we pick up their traits and mimic their values, coping skills, and beliefs. At some point we find that we are separate beings. These Czars that rule us are not all there is to life. We individuate. We learn who we are. We develop personalities. We grow up, screw up, and give up. We stand up, rise up, and end up confused about the meaning of life. It’s a bit funny, considering that we put so much time and energy into our lives, only to end up saying, “Is that all there is?” or “What’s it all about?”

If we are lucky, we either succeed big or fail big when we are young adults. When we are at the top or at the bottom, we can look into our lives and declare them empty. Things must change. When we have failed enough, we look deeper. We know there is a better way and that way is not dependent on the events in our lives. And when we have reached the top, but do not know the truth of our being, all we see is a vast display of more mountains to climb. If we are wise, we see that if we do not stop in our tracks, we continue along like the proverbial cat, chasing its tail up the next mountain. If we are less fortunate, and try to play life safe, we may strive for years to reach the top. This is almost an American sport: trying to reach the top. What a waste of time. It is like putting a tea bag in tepid water. The tea does not come out robust; it is weak and flavorless. Failure may be a drag, but once we have failed, we are free to start anew and to look for a better path. The same is true of our successes. When we figure out that material success is empty, we are free to look elsewhere. I was a slow learner. I reached success twice before I realized that I had missed the point of life. My life was good the second time around. I went all out to be a spiritual success. My life was draped with mystical accoutrements, but there was always a shadow that defied definition, that made life feel off base. Maybe there was something I did not know or there was something I was supposed to do, even though I had not a clue as to what that something was.

It seemed to get back to one simple realization – realizing that I did not know how to get what I wanted, and it was possible that I did not know what I wanted. What a great realization. I did not know. But I knew that something did know, and I gave myself to that, whatever, whomever it was. It was total surrender. I was free, after that initial surrender; not forever, but I tasted a freedom that could never be found through conventional seeking. For years I have popped in and out of bliss, and in and out of a deep knowing. My next discovery happened somewhere along the way, or maybe it was just an accidental realization, but I found that everything is absolutely, irrevocably, okay. It does not matter what I think, feel, say, or see. My actions do not in any way disturb this deep stillness, the true reality. I cannot ruin anything. Everything is okay. If you have followed my writings, you know that I refer to this as the Supreme Okayness. This Okayness is not dependent on the content of our lives, and it is the essence of who we are. Just as there is a Supreme Okayness, there is an underlying non-efforting grace that holds life in her arms, and when we bend to That, everything becomes EZier and EZier.

Suppose someone told you that you could change your life radically, for the better, if you spent just three minutes a day doing inner work? Would you believe it? Maybe not, but wouldn't it be worth an investment of three minutes a day to try it?

The Living Book offers just this. Devote three minutes a day to this process and your life will become a living testimony to the seed principle. A tiny seed can grow into a mighty tree, but it must be planted. Plant your daily seed for three short minutes and notice both subtle and miraculous changes in your life. In addition to the daily practice, one can use the process when they are stumped or afraid or angry. This process transforms anger into love. When we plant seeds of light into our thoughts and emotional bodies, we move into higher frequencies of well-being.

The Living Book, by Anne Sermons Gillis. Paperback $4.95 plus $3.00 shipping. PDF Download $0.99. Kindle Book $2.99.

Join Anne’s Facebook Group

This group is a place to post uplifting affirmations and thoughts about prosperity and abundant living. Let’s create a right relationship with money so that we feel comfortable about money. Let’s use money as it’s meant to be used, and not as a way to accumulate power or to fill a void. We don’t need money to buy more stuff. We need it to create a world that works for everyone. We want to cast off old beliefs of lack and reclaim our natural state of abundance. Anne, AKA Dr. Money, posts a nightly goodnight video for the prosperity team, and everyone who watches those videos becomes a part of the prosperity team.
