  A Note From Anne

Dear ,

Today is the Texas primary for the election of presidential candidates. It's called Super Tuesday. My husband and I work the polls. It's a long day, from about 6 AM to 9 PM. And while I dislike the theatrics of politics, I prefer to be involved rather than to sit back and do nothing.

Election day displays a consortium of people. Some complain loudly while others are dazzled by the voting process. Working the polls involves plenty of people watching. There is a sense of pride and honor in the process, and, while I feel that our country is an oligarchy rather than a democracy, it's rewarding to work the polls. For many years I've been an election judge, but this year I decided to go easy and be a worker. That means I don't have the responsibility of the judge and not nearly as much paper work.

If it's to be, we have to see it, sense it, imagine it, and work for it. I hope you can make the following statement or one similar, your own.

I see a world where money is no longer the primary indicator of the quality of life, and health, happiness, satisfaction, and compassion surface as the principal indicators of the good life. I see a world where we work together to solve our problems and where the USA continues to explore this experiment called democracy. I see a world of service, a country where democracy cannot be bought by the highest bidder. I see resolution and resurrection everywhere and the emergence of love, peace and joy. Join me in my vision.

  Start a Revolution of Blessings

Blessings are a form of prayer. We think of receiving blessings from a higher power, but why not be the blesser? Make up blessings and silently bless the people you encounter. Using the mind to direct our thoughts to bless others is an astounding way to use the mind!

Let's be the ones who extend thoughts of infinite well-being to our friends and to the world. Consider the following blessings, then make up blessings to bless your life, your friends and family, the water, the earth, the trees, or the economy. There are no limits to the blessings you can give. Give your blessing freely to life and you will find your life opening in mysterious and enlivening ways. Blessing others and blessing situations are silent forms of giving.

  • May you be peaceful, healthy, abundant, harmonious, joy-filled, and loving.
  • May the light of Being keep you safe.
  • May love bless you.
  • May you be amused by life, turned on to contributing your part, and amazed at creation.
  • May you be focused, clear, and efficient.
  • May you be inquisitive and powerful.
  • May you be imaginative and creative.
  • May you be appreciated and cherished.
  • May your needs be met and you desires be wise.
  • May you know that your contribution is valuable.
  • May you have extraordinary incidences of meaningful synchronicity.
  • May you know yourself.
  • May you get plenty of hugs and contact with wonderful, loving people.
  • May peace break out on earth.
  • May those who are dying at this moment be guided to the light.
  • May those who are hungry be fed.
  • May those who are homeless find shelter.
  • May those who are in pain be comforted.
  • May those who have been unkind be met with kindness so they can feel the touch of unconditional love.
  • May those who cause pain be forgiven and met with infinite wisdom, peace, and comfort and find peace in their lives. (This does not mean that someone who kills another should not go to prison. It means that those people can find a way to peace. Peaceful people do not commit crimes. Our judgment and criticism only contribute to our emotional demise. The criminal has no idea if I am upset with him or her. Any compassion I offer to others is concurrently offered to myself. We may not be criminals, but we harbor thoughts of unworthiness and think we need punishment. Compassion undoes self-imposed guilt.)

Even though the blessings we give to others are powerful, it is our lives and how we live them that are the consummate blessing. May we see the blessing we are to others and receive the humility we need to keep our egos out of the picture!

Decrees

When's the last time you issued a decree? Decrees are another form of blessing. When you go shopping, decree "Let this be easy, fun, and swift." Think internally as you walk past people, "Let there be harmony in every aspect of your life." Create outrageously passionate decrees, such as "Let there be unending joy in your life and in all the people you see, touch, or hear about." Shower your decrees in every direction, to everyone and include all life forms – trees, rivers, and animals.

Use the following decrees as a guideline and spend one day thinking in terms of decrees.

  • Let there be abundant life.
  • Let there be joy.
  • Let there be peace between families, friends, states, and nations.
  • Let there be infinite creativity in your life forevermore.
  • Let the good rise above the fear.
  • Let all humankind work together for the highest good of all.
  • Let our relationship with money be based on provision rather than on lack.
  • Let there be cooperation.
  • Let this be easy.
  • Let a profound sense of safety permeate my life, starting right now.

Decree of Good

There is a power that operates in all events, under all circumstances, and in all experiences. This power is good and it governs my mind and world. It radiates though all beings. Through the power invested in me by the Source that flows through me and as an incarnation of unlimited good, I decree the following:

  • The earth is in harmony and balance.
  • All beings on earth awaken to their true spiritual identities.
  • Goodness flourishes in the minds and hearts of all.
  • There is a great awakening to the nature of true abundance, health, compassion, and well-being.
  • Humans live in harmony with the earth, air, fire, water, and mental elements of creation.

We have a tremendous influence in the world, but we don't use our power as we could. What we want for ourselves and our families can be a guideline for what we want for others. Use your influence to create just and meaningful decrees for a new world of well-being.

Nature

When I lived in Spring, Texas, I walked the same trail every day, past a gloried mud puddle. Little frogs or critters darted into the water when I approached. Each day I tried to move slower, but the frogs disappeared nonetheless. One day it dawned on me to approach the puddle and just remain still. Sure enough, after a few minutes, little heads started peeping through the water. I watched the critters for a long time and finally left. It was calming to be perfectly still and watch nature come alive.

Today as I walked I saw a grey heron hunting. He stood knee deep in water, and with great stealth and determination, he stalked his prey. The quiet, almost motionless move through the water called to me. I stood still for 3 or 4 minutes, mesmerized with his focus, and, in due time, his lightning strike yielded a small snake or eel. After a few moments, I moved on, but felt the seeds of Presence stirring in my soul.

Years ago Jim and I went on a trip to Big Bend. (See picture below.) We unloaded the car, erected our tent, and finally it came time to relax. I was in the Chisos Mountains, surrounded by endless beauty, and I was up tight. I couldn’t relax. A bird landed on a nearby cactus. I watched intently, and as I watched, the stress drained away. Suddenly I was present and could experience the surrounding beauty.

Researchers report that watching fish in a home aquarium can reduce stress and lower blood pressure. We live in a culture where our bodies are almost arched forward from hurry, yet nature is within our reach and always there to relieve us.

While meditation is wonderful for reducing stress, not everyone can or will meditate, but almost everyone is able to take 5 minutes and watch a butterfly, a bug, or a bird. Nature watching restores our energy, calms our minds, and brings a sense of balance to our lives. We suffer from the lack of being in nature, but we don't have to go to Walden Pond to take advantage of nature's song. It sings everywhere and with intentional awareness we can sing in the choir. We become more productive when we take some relaxing time out. Going out to lunch at a loud restaurant with people shouting to be heard doesn't count. We need nature. Here's Dr. Natural's prescription: Go outside for five minutes; be still, watch, and breathe. Feel the stress recede. Do this daily for 30 days. Double the dose when necessary. This medication has no adverse effects and can be taken by people of all ages.
