  A Note From Anne

Less is More

Dear ,

When you read this, we will be nestled safe in our The Woodlands home, yet today I write from the beach at Galveston Island State Park. I’ve dreamed all my life of spending time at the beach during the winter. Today I’m living that dream. I can walk on the beach alone, no one else in sight. What a great feeling.

One of the rv’ers staying at the campground called me over to show off her collection of conch shells. She told me exactly where to find the shells and the EZiest way to retrieve them. I listened and displayed a proper amount of interest. She encouraged me to go on a shell hunt. They are just there for the taking.

I walked away smiling, but inside there was a different conversation: “Why in the world would I want conch shells?” Years ago I found some beautiful discarded conch shells. I had wanted some and excitedly brought them home. Then I wondered what I was going to do with them. They landed in my garden. They stayed there for a few years but the acid rain beat them into a pile of dust. So when my RV neighbor taught me how to find conch shells, I just wasn’t interested. I’ve found that the less stuff I have, the better I feel and the EZier my life becomes. It’s a lifelong lesson, yet one that most westerners are awakening to. Less is more when we are overrun by our need to collect, stock up, and store. And that’s the truth!

Ease

When we fill our minds with egoic struggle, worry, and strain, we create a world of stress. And stress is a mess – a mess of unsubstantiated ideas that we make real to us. We can reverse the trend. Our minds and our bodies require ease. Would you like to retire from the culture of strain to the culture of ease? It’s not just about the mind – it’s about the body too. What if you woke up today to a new world where life is EZ or at least EZier (Easier) and your body was relaxed? The following visionary statement is our wakeup call.

Today I wake up, really wake up. I can see clearly – all the good in my life. I breathe in deeply and exhale deeply. My back is upright; my chest and my heart are fully open – not protected by a slumping body or curled shoulders. I am fully capable of an EZier life. I focus my attention on my breath as I breathe in ease and exhale drama and suffering. I inhale ease and exhale all decisions from my past, from my culture, from my family, and from my experiences that bring about emotional suffering.

My connection to ease is already more than adequate to bring ease into my life. I feel it in my body now. I let go of muscular holding patterns and tensions in my body so as to physically honor and welcome the presence of ease. I am at ease. My body is safe. It’s wise to let go of habitual stress, struggle, strain, and suffering. I am willing to be strain free. Life is not hard for me today; life is EZier for me today. I am a true embodiment of ease.

I realize how I create struggle by not letting things be the way they are. “What is” may change in the future, but what is right now is just what is. When things already are, I have to let them be, without intervening with drama and upset. I have to let things be exactly as they are because I can’t change what already is. I don’t want a resistance movement inside my mind. I will not join the resistance.

Evaluating, judging, and criticizing people and events in life bring ongoing struggle, angry righteousness, and loneliness.

Today is a call for ease. I hear that call and give myself permission for an EZier life. I no longer define myself by my struggles. It’s safe for me to exist, to be fully present, to have more fun, and to have an EZier life. I am willing to do my part by dropping the drama today. I go forth into this day with easy thoughts. Easy is the way to live and go about my day.

Changing our lives and letting go of drama requires a deep willingness for change and an ongoing choice to stop our mind’s dramatic reruns. Even in the worst of times we can be uplifted by source energy, but since most of our suffering is Made Up Stuff (MUS), AKA worry, we can let it go. We have outgrown any allegiance to pain, and, at last, we are free to align with Presence. Try speaking this visionary statement out loud each day for three weeks and notice how much better and EZier your day becomes. Make it EZ, take it EZ, and have an EZ day.

  Quotes

Anne Affirms:

"With a renewed sense of love and grace, I’m moving to the world of miracle and blessing. My life is a pilgrimage of discovery, compassion, ease, and adventure."

"I’m stressing the blessing, accepting the grace, living my life in love’s embrace."

Quotes

"Most people think that unless you stay busy every minute, something is wrong with you. Just the opposite is true: it is only if you stay busy every minute that something is wrong with you! People usually seek outside themselves for calm, peace, and creative power that can only be found within themselves, in the silence."
-- Catherine Ponder

"They will forget what you said, they will forget who you are, but they will never forget how you made them feel."
-- Maya Angelou

"Love and peace and joy and wonder; live inside their grace to ponder."
-- Anne Sermons Gillis

"Believe, open, and receive."
-- Michael Krieger

  Healthy Living

The Mind/Body Connection

When we think of mental health, we think about the mind and its ability to function and serve us well; we think of the lack of mental illness. But what metaphysicians have known for thousands of years, and the newly established western medical practitioners are learning, is that good mental health and good physical health are intimately related. Think of the mind as the lover and the body as the beloved. When one treats a lover well, the relationship flourishes. When one treats their lover poorly, the relationship degenerates. The same is true with the body. What we mentally say and how we feel greatly affect the body.

Emotions move through our bodies, as do chronic states of unhappiness and hopelessness. Eventually the toxic energies from the body get stored as physical memories, and when the energy buildup overwhelms our systems, the body gets sick.

My friend Barbara had cancer. She was a deeply spiritual person, yet she knew she was overworked and had moved far away from the pleasure of living. She took a few months off work and went to Mexico and sat by the beach day after day until her spirit renewed and she felt strong. When she returned home and was tested, she was cancer free.

Catherine Ponder tells a story in her book, Pray and Grow Rich, about a woman whose son was hospitalized and about to die. He was in a ward with two other men. Each man was in poor health and each expected to die. The mother knew of the mind body connection. She spoke with her son’s nurses and doctors and asked if they would honor her request to tell her son each day that he looked better, that the tide had turned, and he was now on the way to recovery. They complied and spoke encouraging words each day. Miraculously, the tide did turn in her son’s health and he completely recovered. Not only did her son recover; so did the other two men in his room. One patient reported that when the nurses brought good news to his roommate, he took it as his own and repeated it over and over.

It seems natural to focus on our pains and illnesses, but when we focus on our health and recovery, health miracles occur. A new medicine is created. We luck into seeing the only doctor in town that could have diagnosed and treated us. Our body unexplainably recovers. We encounter healing angels. We have power not only in our lives, but in our health. Be loyal to uplifting thoughts of health and well-being and soon you will find yourself in radiant health.
