  The Anne Report

Traveling Again

Dear ,

We are safely nestled at home again. While I used the term safely, I didn't mention itching. We love our camping trips to the woods, and the insects seem to love them too, because they take lavish liberties in biting us. We come home scratching and hoping nothing bit us other than a few mosquitoes and fire ants. Unfortunately, Jim seems to be a tick magnet, and, as I scratch, I seriously suspect chiggers. My friend Tomi sent this helpful video for EZ tic removal.

As you read this, we will have returned from a 5-day camping trip and a day trip to Galveston. I think I know where the expression came from, "I met myself going and coming!"

Thomas and Reynolds

Our grandsons have passed their three-year-old mark and they are precious. Having two identical twins doubles the pleasure and the treasure.

That's it for the Anne report, until next week.

The Law of Attraction

I had a near death experience when I was around four years old. It's hard to remember the details, but the experience unlocked something in me. From that point on, I was curious about cosmology and ontology. I didn't know those big words then, but I was inquisitive about things that most people my age never thought about. I would look at the air and try to see molecules. I would sit in a tree and observe life.

I had dreams of making a difference. I wanted to change the world. The journey to better the world started when I was a junior in High School. I wrote a paper on US-Latin American affairs, studied US-Latin relations, and was chosen as a church delegate to visit Washington, D.C. and New York City. In Washington I met with my congressman, and, with my senator's aid, I toured the congressional and senatorial building and even had lunch in the congressional dining room. I looked around and tried to imagine who those important people might be. I had stars for eyes and my breath birthed dreams for a new, just society. Then on to NYC, where I met with UN officials and studied the process of world cooperation in government.

The seeds of ambition were nurtured over the years through my participation in politics as a teen Democrat. My father was a member of the NC House of Representatives, so I was fortunate to be a pagette when I was only 13. I campaigned for zero population growth in my early twenties. I started attending national and international gatherings for planetary healing. In the early 1990's I was one of the hosts of a small international event held in rural Texas. We decided to take a break from the business and I put together a spur of the moment talent show featuring conference participants. I was the Master of Ceremonies.

Due to an intense mystical occurrence, I entered an altered state of consciousness. It was the realm of divine comedy. The show was awesome, and somehow the boundaries and borders melted between participants and we became a global family. The experience did not end for me at the close of the show. All night I lay awake, filled with the most incredible energy. It was the light of comedy. It came in waves. It seemed like comedy heaven. I had a mystical experience of laughter, joy, and hilarity. I embodied the essence of joy and discovered that our traditional view of spirituality contained too much seriousness.

I was so inspired by that experience of Universal Joy that I started a campaign to become a court jester in the US House of Representatives. In my altered state, it seemed like a terrific idea. I wanted to perform for the President in the congressional building for a joint session of the senate and the house. I vividly imaged that occurring. When I came off my visionary mountain, I dropped the idea. Some things that make sense when I am on a spiritual high seem ridiculous when I re-enter the ordinary world.

The next year I was invited to a conference in The Philippines. It took place in the congress building in Quezon City. There was a parallel conference sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Education, which included theater people from around the world. They put together a show to be held in the congress building. I was watching them practice when the group leader asked if I would represent the indigenous people of North America. I responded affirmatively, but explained that it would be an offense to represent another culture, but I would do something to honor the American indigenous. I gave a dramatic depiction of how the early settlers depended on the indigenous for survival and how later we met them with a sword, decimating their people, lands, and culture. I asked for forgiveness and begged again that they show us the way to a sustainable planet. There were thousands of people in the audience, including diplomats, ambassadors, cabinet members, heads of the military, indigenous datas (Datas are the tribal leaders.), members of the house and senate, and the President. It was not exactly as I had imagined, when I was in my uplifted comedy state and wanted to perform for congress, but the key ingredients of my dream were there: performing in the congress to a joint session, with the President in attendance. It was a powerful demonstration of the mind and heart in unison to create and manifest a dream. It seems that in wanting to make a difference, I was the one who benefited the most.

A few months before the conference, a friend, who had international prominence, told me I needed some impressive pictures and news stories in my PR kit. She shared her picture on the front page of The Sun (A tabloid in England and Ireland). I thought, "Why can't I have my picture on the front page of an international newspaper?" This little desire birthed a picture with the President of the Philippines and the international delegates (and you could really see me) on the front page of all the major newspapers in the Philippines. Again, the Law of Attraction (LOA) worked out my dreams. We called it manifesting in those days, not the LOA, but thinking, creating, allowing, and receiving were the same then as they are now.

Fast forward to our trying to sell our house. My daughter offered, "Mom, you know how to make things happen. You taught me I could have anything I wanted, and you can do the same." She was right. With the right amount of imagination and letting go, I can get what I want, but as I aged, my wisdom surpassed my personal desires. My response: "Yes, I can make things happen, but I've learned that I don't always know the best thing to attract and create, but there is a power that does know. It is better and EZier for me to allow the Supreme Wisdom to choose for me. I don't need to constantly push my agenda. If I know in my heart that something is mine to do, I will move heaven and earth to make it happen, but as I grow spiritually, I find that wanting less and surrendering more is the best and EZiest choice."

The LOA is a wonderful tool that assists us in meeting the basic needs of life, such as having enough money to pay our bills, having medical care, and having a safe home, but it doesn't work well for healing the soul. Self-healing is the process of recognizing our true spiritual identity, not figuring out how to be successful. Just as a tricycle has its usefulness, so does the LOA, but the LOA is the training wheels for the spiritual traveler. Without the proper use of the LOA, we sail on the winds of desire, and find that each conquest takes us on an endless journey of dissatisfaction. We can have everything we need in life, and, with the use of discretion and discernment, everything can be EZ or at least EZier.

Anne Quotes

"Thoughts can control us, we can control thoughts, and we can transcend them. Thoughts cause all suffering. They pull us in many directions. They can be petty, manipulative, or gaudy, but their least attractive characteristic is that they are repetitive. They come to us over and over, reminding us of useless information and hammering us into rage, boredom, sadness, and fear."

"When I was younger, my fiancé broke our engagement. It was painful, and I was not expected to live. That is a joke, but I did feel like I would die. It was not until I quit trying to figure out what I did wrong and how I could get him back, that I was able to move on, rebuild my life, and have some fun. Acceptance is the point at which pain turns to possibility."

"Life is big. It is bigger than we can know with our minds, yet it is the perfect size to be known in our hearts. Regardless of what is going on for you this week, I wish you a Happy Week, and a heart full of appreciation for life itself. There is only one life. It comes in many forms. Let's share it, love it, and appreciate it, because when we do, life becomes EZier and EZier."

Feel Happier and Reduce Anxiety

With looming environmental catastrophes, increasing political and economic divisions, and snowballing numbers of stress-related diseases, such as heart attacks and cancer, we are ticking bombs. We suffer from mental/emotional explosions. How many times have we heard or said, "I can't take it anymore."? It is natural to have some anxiety. We live in what Jean Houston refers to as "jump to" time. We seem to be on an increasingly accelerated time continuum. Scientists say that technology speeds up our perception of time. What used to seem like 24 hours in pre-technological time, feels like 16 hours today. We live in a time crunch. We hustle and hurry from one side of the world to the other, from one task to another.

Me? Stressed?

While some anxiety is normal, more than 40 million people in the US have anxiety disorders. Some estimate that more than 30% of the population suffers from some form of anxiety. There are four categories of anxiety disorders: General Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD), Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). People live to avoid catastrophe, rather than in anticipation of something good happening. If you find yourself having bouts of anxiety, despite all the meditation you do or the times of wonderful calm and peace of mind you have attained, you might suffer from a form of anxiety disorder.

While therapy and group support may be the best choice in dealing with anxiety issues, here are a few ideas to help us deal with stress and anxiety.

  • Hold one thumb with the other hand. Embrace the entire thumb. This calms and reduces worry. Switch hands in a few minutes. This is easy to do, while riding in a car, or sitting in a meeting, or while falling asleep. It is not an accident that young children suck their thumbs or other fingers.
  • Check out Yogi Norman's neck and shoulder video. It only takes 6 minutes to do this, and it's great for relaxing that stressful area where we hold so much tension in our shoulders.
  • Hum Your Way to Health
Humming makes us feel better, especially if we hum a happy tune, and humming sends a sound vibration throughout the body that helps clear up to stress and distress.
    Humming:
    • Helps to keep the sinuses healthy and free from infection.
    • Is used as a vocal warm-up for better singing.
    • Relaxes the body and mind.
    • Brings us directly to our inner room of peace and serenity.
    • Reduces fear and worry.
    • Keeps us grounded.
    • Lowers blood pressure.
  • Hugging lowers blood pressure immediately; so go out and get all the hugging you can. Don't miss an opportunity to hug.
  • Palming. Rub your hands together and then hold your hands over your eyes, without putting pressure on the eyes or cheek bones. Let your eyes relax. The eye muscles are under constant stress and this is only one of the few things that help reduce eye stress.
  • Breathe consciously. Count to 4 on the in breath and exhale to the count of 6.
  • Drink chamomile tea. Don't restrict it to bedtime; drink it during the day too. Iced chamomile tea with a squeeze of lemon is tasty. Add a little liquid stevia for sweetening (I've never found a powdered stevia I liked.), lie back, and enjoy.
